Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Tuesday, Oct. 31: At 12:26 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest in the 300 block of W. Reed St. At 2:14 pm a deputy and a Jefferson officer assisted a jailer with the inmate arrested earlier that afternoon as he tried to escape from a holding room. The inmate, Joshua Parrish of Jefferson, broke a door in half and caused in estimated $1,100 in damage. Parrish was charged with criminal mischief.
Monday, Oct. 30: At 8 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of N. 18th St in Grand Junction. At 4:21 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of an aggressive dog near High and Lincoln Sts in Scranton. At 6:13 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with trying to locate a wanted subject in the 300 block of N. High St.
Sunday, Oct. 29: At 8:09 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on J Ave near 220th St.
Saturday, Oct. 28: At 12:32 am a deputy assisted the Perry PD with locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident. At 9:32 am a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. At 10:38 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with attempting to located a wanted subject. At 3:30 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 240th St near J Ave in Jackson Township. At 9:17 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 4 near 305th St in Franklin Township. The driver had left the scene.
Friday, Oct. 27: At 8:10 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1200 block of 250th St in Jackson Township. At 9:05 am a deputy investigated a complaint of fraud in the 400 block of Madison St in Scranton. At 5:45 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on Hwy 144 near 250th St in Junction Township. At 9:28 pm a deputy attempted to locate a dog running at large on Main St near State St in Scranton.
Thursday, Oct. 26: At 12:44 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 4:44 pm a deputy attempted to locate cattle running at large on S Ave near 195th St in Hardin Township.
Wednesday, Oct. 25: At 10:42 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 2300 block of 260th St in Junction Township. At 2:16 pm the sheriff and a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a disturbance at Greene County HS. At 4:35 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 1100 block of 170th St in Bristol Township. At 6:47 pm a deputy investigated a report of a stalled tractor on Hwy 4 at 270th St in Franklin Township.
Tuesday, Oct. 24: At 4:56 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Rippey. At 10:50 pm a deputy investigated a driving complaint on Hwy 4 near Hwy 30 north of Jefferson. Conner Groves, 26, of Jefferson was arrested for operating while under the influence and two counts of child endangerment*.
Monday, Oct. 23: At 12:47 am a deputy assisted the Webster County sheriff’s office with a pursuit near Harcourt. At 7:15 am a deputy and an Iowa State trooper investigated a single vehicle in the ditch on Hwy 30 and J Ave west of Jefferson. At 9:29 am a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal hunting on Mulberry Avenue near 210th St north of Jefferson. At 9:50 am a deputy contacted the DNR for a dead eagle on 235th St near Jordan Ave west of Jefferson. At 4:51 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 5:20 pm the sheriff and deputies conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. Suspected controlled substances were seized and charges are pending lab results. At 6:16 pm the sheriff conducted a traffic stop on Wild Rose Lane. Suspected controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were seized. Charges are pending lab results. At 7:27 pm the sheriff and deputies conducted a search of a residence in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. Suspected controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were seized. Charges are pending lab results.
Sunday, Oct. 22: At 4:57 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 500 block of V Ave in Paton Township. At 8:55 am a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Grand rescue responded to 14th and Main Sts in Grand Junction for a 4-wheeler accident. Alex Treft, 32, of Grand Junction lost control of his 2003 Yamaha Raptor, hitting a tree. The Raptor was a total loss. The driver was taken to the Greene County Medical Center with suspected injuries. He will be charged with driving while barred*. At 12:02 pm a deputy investigated a cat bite in the 600 block of Jay St in Churdan.
Saturday, Oct. 21: At 1:35 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 700 block of Grant St in Scranton. Akecheta Hudnell, 36, of Boone was arrested for public intoxication*. At 3:26 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of found controlled substances at Casey’s in Grand Junction. Makenya Blumberg, 23, of Grand Junction was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 6:48 pm a deputy assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with a hit and run accident.
Friday, Oct. 20: At 4:51 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD in responding to a domestic assault call. At 12:07 pm a deputy and the Paton fire department responded to a field fire on 120th St and R Ave in Dawson Township. At 1:06 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a loose cow in the 1300 block of S. Elm St. At 5 pm a deputy investigated found property at Seven Hills Park. At 9:07 pm the sheriff and a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a search of a garage in the 500 block of S. Olive St.
Thursday, Oct. 19: At 3:13 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with a search warrant in the 300 block of S. Locust St in Jefferson. Suspected stolen property that was reported after the last search warrant was recovered.
Wednesday, Oct. 18: At 12 pm the sheriff investigated a burglary that occurred 400 block of S. Wilson Ave in Jefferson. At 2:47 pm a deputy investigated a burglary to the Rippey ball field concession stand. At 3:10 pm the sheriff, deputies, and the Jefferson PD arrested Bryce Delaney, 46, of Jefferson for theft- first degree*. At 4:34 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 7:40 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 2200 block of 170th St in Paton Township. John Smith, 52, of Jefferson was located in a vehicle in the ditch. Smith was arrested for operating while intoxicated*. He was also cited for failure to maintain control. At 9:36 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with a search warrant in the 300 block of S. Locust St in Jefferson. Stolen silver, gold, coins, and family heirlooms were recovered along with suspected controlled substances. At 11 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with a search warrant in the 1500 block of N. Elm St in Jefferson. Suspected controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were seized.
Tuesday, Oct. 17: At 5:52 pm a deputy assisted with trying to locate an injured eagle near A Ave and 190th St in Kendrick Township.
Sunday, Oct. 15: At 2:03 pm a deputy arrested Joseph Burchfield, 50, of Dana on warrants for possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense (two counts), a controlled substance violation, and keeping a premises or vehicle for controlled substance violation*. At 7:09 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD in responding to a burglary in the 200 block of E. Lincoln Way in Jefferson. At 8:24 pm a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with a gas leak at a hog confinement in the 2300 block of B Ave in Willow Township.
Saturday, Oct. 14: At 4:27 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass at the baseball field in Rippey.
Friday, Oct. 13: At 4:13 am a deputy located on Highway 4 near 290th St in Franklin County a vehicle that was stolen out of Des Moines. The vehicle was impounded and is under investigation by the Des Moines police department. At 5:33 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of Anyer St in Dana.
Thursday, Oct. 12: At 12:05 am a deputy investigated a fire in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 5:52 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on 230th St near S Ave west of Grand Junction.
Wednesday, Oct. 11: At 1:21 pm a deputy, Scranton fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on E Ave near 250th St south of Scranton. Adam Toney, 27, of Carroll was pulling out of a field drive in a 1998 Volvo semi tractor and a grain trailer. The shoulder of the roadway sank causing the trailer to roll onto its side, pulling the tractor over with it. The tractor was a total loss and the trailer had an estimated $25,000 in damage. The driver was taken to Greene County Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. At 4:45 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 700 block of Jay St in Churdan. At 9:35 pm a deputy investigated a fire in the 1000 block of State St in Scranton. The property owner extinguished the fire.
Tuesday, Oct. 10: At 8:34 am a deputy investigated complaint of farm equipment blocking the roadway on 240th St and A Ave in Scranton Township. At 11:23 am a deputy investigated a possible violation of a no contact order in the 600 block of S. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 2:54 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 300 block of 250th near Scranton. At 4:56 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 337th St near X Ave in Washington Township. William Barrow, 39, of Panora struck a deer with a 2012 Dodge Ram, causing an estimated $500 in damage to the vehicle. At 7:55 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 300 block of Head St in Churdan.
Monday, Oct. 9: At 4:10 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with traffic control for an accident on N. Vine and W. Washington Sts. At 7:01 pm a deputy investigated an illegal burn near 140th St and N Ave in Highland Township.
Sunday, Oct. 8: At 2:29 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of State St in Scranton. At 2:47 pm a deputy and Scranton fire responded to a combine fire in the 1800 block of E Ave in Scranton Township. The IH 7250 combine was a total loss and several acres of corn were damaged. At 3:30 pm a deputy, Carroll County sheriff’s office, Jefferson fire, Iowa State Patrol, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 1200 block of B Ave in Kendrick Township. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident. At 3:38 pm the sheriff and the Jefferson PD responded to a domestic in the 200 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 7:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a fire in the 1000 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 7:42 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on X Ave near 275th St in Junction Township. John Shufelt, 30, of Dawson struck a deer with a 2022 Dodge Ram. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,400.
Saturday, Oct. 7: At 11:36 am a deputy issued a salvage tag for a deer in the 1800 block of 195th St in Junction Township. At 2:01 pm a deputy and Scranton fire responded to a combine fire in the 700 block of 215th St in Bristol Township. The Case 1680 combine was a total loss. At 4:16 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite at Eagle and Main St in Scranton. At 4:46 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 500 block of Park Street in Paton. At 5:37 pm a deputy and Scranton fire responded to a combine fire on 190th and Eaton Ave in Kendrick Township. Minor damage was done to the combine.
Friday, Oct. 6: At 12:18 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1600 block of Meadow Ave in Jackson Township. At 9:02 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a pursuit on N Ave. The vehicle stopped in the 1600 block of Neola Ave south of Jefferson. Mark Johns, 61, was arrested for eluding, driving while license denied or suspended, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence- second offense, possession of a controlled substance- second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 10:40 pm a deputy investigated a car in the ditch in the 100 block of 150th St in Dawson Township. Michael Hart, 42, of Carroll was arrested for operating while under the influence- first offense*. He was cited for failure to maintain control.
Thursday, Oct. 5: At 11:37 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1100 block of Orchard Ave in Hardin Township. Jay Ostrander, 59, of Jefferson was cited for trespass*. At 3:46 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of S. 12th St in Grand Junction.
Wednesday, Oct. 4: At 2:52 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 700 block of North St in Churdan.
Tuesday, Oct. 3: At 12:04 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on W. Harrison and S. West St in Jefferson. Dale Spaulding, 54, of Scranton was arrested for driving while license barred, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 5:12 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. Timothy Ray, 49, of Grand Junction was arrested for assault*. At 10:34 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. At 12:51 pm a deputy, Grand Junction fire and Jefferson fire responded to structure fire in the 2300 block of X Ave in Washington Township. The fire to the structure was caused by a brush pile that the property owner had ignited. Logan Streadman, 22, of Perry was charged with reckless use of fire*. At 2:11 pm a deputy investigated a no contact order violation in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. At 7:08 pm a deputy investigated a fire in a ditch in the 300 block of T Ave in Dawson Township. The fire was an unreported controlled burn. The property owner put the fire out. At 10:09 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a consent search in the 600 block of W. Monroe St in Jefferson.
Monday, Oct. 3: At 12:04 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on W. Harrison and S. West Sts in Jefferson. Dale Spaulding, 54, of Scranton was arrested for driving while license barred, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offence, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 5:12 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. Timothy Ray, 49, of Grand Junction was arrested for assault*.
Sunday, Oct. 2: At 5:20 am a deputy and fire departments from Churdan, Paton, Jefferson and Scranton responded to a structure fire in the 800 block of Sand St in Churdan. The state fire marshal’s office was called to assist with the investigation of the fire. At 1:04 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 600 block of Grant St in Scranton.
Sunday, Oct. 1: At 8:57 am a deputy and a Jefferson police officer assisted an Iowa State Patrol trooper with a traffic stop and a search of a vehicle on Hwy 30 near Grimmell Rd. At 5:10 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault on 170th St near L Ave in Highland Township. At 10:18 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Steven Zimmerman, 71, of Scranton struck a deer with a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,700.
