Identifying a suspect in the theft of collectible coins, gold and silver bars, jewelry and cash valued at approximately $250,000 was made much easier by surveillance cameras at Wild Rose Casino. That the theft was reported the same day the suspect tried to unload his booty just shortened the time it took.
At about noon Tuesday, Oct. 18, a Grand Junction resident called the sheriff’s office to report that coins, gold and silver bars, jewelry and cash had been stolen from his son’s home in the 400 block of S. Olive St in Jefferson the previous Saturday.
Also on Tuesday, security staff at Wild Rose Casino reported an individual had brought in an assortment of coins to be sold. After viewing surveillance footage, a suspect was identified from previous incidents. The footage showed the suspect handing over an assortment of coins, which were processed and later turned over to JPD officer Bohden Bigler, the investigating officer.
The coins were taken to the LEC, where the victim identified them as belonging to him. He also advised he had not given permission to the suspect to be in his home.
Other casino surveillance cameras showed the suspect leaving the casino in a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck. The vehicle was found by sheriff Jack Williams parked in the 300 block of S. Locust St in Jefferson. Williams stayed nearby, watching for the owner of the vehicle to return.
Bryce Randal Delaney, 46, of Jefferson was arrested when he returned to his truck.
Also, the owner of the house where the truck was parked told law enforcement the suspect had been living in the basement of the house. The homeowner gave consent for a search of the common areas of the house and an assortment of collectable coins were found. They were also identified by the rightful owner.
A search warrant was obtained for the basement area in which the suspect was living. Many items reported to be missing from the Locust St address were found there, including mail and paper documents bearing the Olive St address. Illegal drug-related items were also found. More charges against Delaney are pending.
