Ram Spikers Win Two Matches

A two-win week boosted the Greene County volleyball team to a 13-10 overall season record, going 4-2 in conference play and putting them third in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
The Ram volleyball team hosted West Marshall on Tuesday, winning 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 25-17. Game leaders for the Rams were Violet Reedy with 30 assists, Kaylee Stalder with 15 kills, Graci Cooklin with 16 digs and Payton Kokenge with two aces. The team had an 89.2-percent effective serving rate, with Lila Osterson’s 24/24 services helping boost that number.
On Thursday, the team traveled to Saydel, picking up a 3-0 win over the 1-18 Saydel Eagles with set scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-8. Reedy had 24 assists in the game, with Emma Shipley pounding 11 kills. Cooklin had six aces in the game, with an effective serve rate of 95.5-percent with 21 out of 22 serves and Emma Ewalt making all seven of her serves, Osterson making 15 out of her 16 serves. Osterson and Reedy had three aces each.
“The girls had good energy tonight and made quick business of another conference win,” stated coach Chris Heisterkamp.
The Rams are in fourth place in the conference with a 2-2 record. Their overall record is 13-10. Nevada leads the conference at 6-0 in the conference and 21-12 overall.
The team will play on Thursday, Oct. 12 at home against Perry and on Saturday in Winterset.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17 the Rams will face Van Meter on the Bulldogs’ home court for the Class 3A Region 3 game. The winner of the game will move on to face the winner of the Red Oak versus Harlan Community game in the battle for regional champion. Also in the bracket are Des Moines Christian, Atlantic, Clarke and Clarinda.
