The Greene County volleyball team officially kicked off their season last week with a quadrangular on Tuesday, picking up one win, followed by another win from Thursday’s game.
The Rams traveled to Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday to take part in the Mustang Invitational. Greene County faced Ballard, falling in three games. The Bombers took the first game 21-12 with the Rams rallying to take the second 21-14. The final set was close, but the Bombers came out victorious with a 15-12 win.
Kaylee Stalder was credited with nine kills, Emma Shipley with six, two from Lila Osterson and one from Natalee Baugh. The team served at 93 percent. For digs, Graci Cooklin had eight, with Emma Ewalt, Haliey Carman and Baugh each with four.
Against Dallas Center-Grimes, the Rams fell 2-1. The first game went to the Mustangs 21-16, with the Rams taking the second 21-18, but falling in the third 15-7. Stalder killed the ball seven times, with Baugh adding three kills, Shipley and Osterson each with two and Ewalt and Cooklin at one each. Cooklin led in digs with 11, while Violet Reedy had five and Stalder four. The team had a 95-percent serving rate.
The Rams picked up a win over Mason City, winning 21-10 in the first set, with a repeat score of 21-10 in the second. Cooklin had 12 digs, Carman had four. Stalder was credited with seven kills, Shipley with three and Osterson with two. The team served at 88 percent.
Thursday’s game was a home show for the Rams, taking a 3-0 win over St. Edmond. The Rams took each game, going 25-9, 25-17 and 25-10. Stalder led in kills, smacking 14, with Shipley adding six and Osterson three. Ewalt and Baugh had two kills each, with Reedy and Payton Kokenge adding one each.
Cooklin led the team in digs with eight, Ewalt with four. Setter Reedy assisted 11 times, with three from Cooklin and Taylor Johnston with two. The team served at 88 percent, with Cooklin being credited as top server in the game, with a 96 percent. The JV and JV2 teams also won their games for the night.
The Rams were scheduled to play again on Monday at Boone High School against the home team and Kuemper Catholic, and on Tuesday at South Central Calhoun against the home team and Panorama.
Next week the Rams play Thursday, Sept. 7, at home against Nevada, and Saturday, Sept. 9 at South Hardin for a tournament.
