The Greene County softball team had a two win, one loss week last week, putting their season at 19-6 as the end of the regular season approaches.
On Monday, June 26, the Rams traveled to Nevada to face the 3-21 Cubs, winning 6-1. At bat, the Rams had seven hits, with two doubles from Becca Anderson and one from Emma Stream. Emma Hoyle had a sacrifice bunt, with two Rams drawing walks. Alexa Peters, Payton Kokenge and Stream each reached on Nevada errors, and two Rams struck out. Olivia Shannon had three stolen bases in the game.
Defensively, the Rams had 21 putouts, seven from Stream as catcher and six from Paige Teeples on first base. Hoyle threw 43 pitches, allowing three hits with one run, one walk, one hit batter and one sacrifice allowed, striking out seven.
Greene County traveled to Southeast Valley on June 27, picking up a 9-1 win. From the Rams, there were nine hits, including seven singles with a home run each from Hoyle and Anderson. Teeples had a sacrifice bunt, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch. Peters and Sara Morlan also reached on walks, with Shannon being hit by a pitch. Kokenge reached on an error and six Rams struck out. Greene County had five stolen bases on five attempts.
On the field, the Rams had 21 putouts, 16 from Stream, with no errors on 24 total chances. Hoyle threw 56 pitches, allowing three hits with one earned run, striking out 16 batters.
Wednesday’s game was at home against Saydel with the Heart of Iowa Conference title on the line. The Rams fell 3-0. Greene County held Saydel to the one run they scored in the first inning, until the Eagles scored two more in the sixth. On the offense, the Rams had three hits, two singles from Peters and one from Chanlyn Cunningham, with 12 strikeouts. The Rams had 22 putouts, eight from Stream, and four team errors. Hoyle allowed four hits with one earned run, one walk and eight strikeouts.
Hoyle is ranked fifth in the state for striking out opponents, with 229 strikeouts this season. She is ranked 17th in the state for wins as pitcher with 18. Olivia Shannon is ranked 13th in the state for stolen bases with 37, and Stream was 15th in the state for putouts with 238.
