The carefully tended, creative gardens that surround the home of Michelle and Mike Kennedy at 405 W. Harrison St were selected for the Jefferson Garden Club’s Yard of the Month award for June 2023.
While a welcoming hosta bed featuring numerous varieties greets visitors on the shaded north side, artfully placed natural stone edging creates structure and movement around the other beds. An array of perennials are interspersed with colorful annuals creating ever blooming beds.
Michelle’s ingenious use of antiques and artistic structures to accent flowers and plants can be seen in all beds. Alley access allows appreciation of the east side garden including a special Sweet Autumn Clematis on a utility pole and two more of these vines on nearby trellis.
Michelle’s love of the color chartreuse green adds a bright touch to the palette. Her eye for the use of a variety of textures and patterns creates interesting plant combinations throughout the landscape.
