The Jefferson city council at its June 13 regular meeting accepted more than $900,000 in FAA for a 100 X 100-ft hangar at the Jefferson municipal airport.
The funds come as two grants. The larger grant, $597,270, represents the city’s accrued FAA entitlement funds through the Airport Improvement Program. The smaller grant, $304,000, is from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law approved in 2021.
Total cost of the hangar is estimated at $1.2 million. Bolton & Menk is applying for a third grant for the project.
The hangar would be large enough to accommodate the small corporate jets that can now use the airport with the runway extension completed.
Should the city need to pay for a portion of the project, it would come from the airport budget, not the city’s general fund, as the airport can generate revenue through hangar rentals and selling aviation fuel. Once the new hangar is built, the third airport improvement will be a fueling station for jet fuel.
The council approved a 10-year, $150,000 development agreement for building renovations at 100 and 102 N. Wilson Ave, formerly DrugTown. The building is owned by Nikki Uebel doing business as Corner View Properties. The building is leased by Uebel Real Estate Services LLC and Midwest Behavioral Health. The agreement is for a loan in the amount of $150,000, forgiven over a period of 10 years.
The council also approved various payments for the sanitary sewer lining project, the Russell St watermain improvement project, and the pool house family restroom remodel.
