GrCo HS holds Awards Night

The Senior Awards Night for the Greene County Class of 2023 was held May 16 at the school auditorium.

Valedictorian for the class is Jesse Miller. Salutatorian is Ashlynn Hinners.

Seniors were recognized for a variety of accomplishments during their high school years.

Recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy, awarded by the World Languages department, were Chad Maston, Olivia Shannon, Alexa Peters, Ilse Hooper, Ashlynn Hinners, Bork Ersnes, Caleb Most  and Paton-Churdan senior Tarynn Fisher in Spanish; and Ilse Hooper and Allee Hinote in French.  Seal of Biliteracy recognizes students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages, one of which is English. Ilse Hooper received the World Languages Award.

Jesse Miller received the Governor’s Scholar Award.

The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference presented medals to student athletes who met a minimum grade point average. Receiving the medals were Natalie Heupel, Katrina Heupel, Ashlynn Hinners, Jesse Miller, Alexa Peters, and Olivia Shannon.

The Bernie Saggau Award was presented to Katrina Heupel. Emma Hoyle and Jesse Miller were the female and male Ram of the Year respectively.

The Greene County Bar Association presented the Iowa Bar Association’s American Citizenship Award to Allee Hinote and Bella Linberg.

Students were recognized for completing career pathways at the Greene County Career Academy as follows – Education, Analynn Baugh, Sadie Gilbertson, Allee Hinote, Bella Linberg, Olivia Shannon; Advanced Manufacturing/ Welding, Kyle Hughes, Jeremiah Mozena, Jaron Turner; Construction/Building trades, Brian Burris, Ethan Frederick, Brad Mason, Dakota Mobley; Computer Science & Programming, Aaron Knoll;  Healthcare, Kamryn Sanders, Alexa Villalobos; Culinary & Hospitality, Alexa Villalobos; Agriculture, Grace Curtis; Industrial Arts, Chad Maston. Future Business Leaders of America Inc, Business CTSO, Ilse Hooper.

All graduates were awarded a $500 Greene County Foundational Scholarship from the Greene County Educational Foundation. This was the fourth year for the $500 awards that are given regardless of each recipient’s future plans.

Students who received $1,000 scholarships were Analynn Baugh, Brianna Blasnitz, Mylo Taute, Katrina Heupel, Natalie Heupel, Ilse Hooper, Emma Hoyle, Gretah Kersey, Madison Kinsey, Cody McCollom, Michael Mills, Cade Silbaugh, and Ashlynn Hinners.
