Judith Karen (Jordan) Burnell was born September 15, 1951, to Irvin and Margaret (Maddux) Jordan. Judy passed onto eternal life May 15 2023, at 71 years of age. Judy was born in Jefferson and began her life’s journey on a farm south of town. Judy passed away at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Judy was involved in 4-H growing up, learning and showing home economic projects. As a senior in high school, she was elected as historian. She was also a “Volunteen” which is a candy striper, at the hospital. She enjoyed growing up on the farm but gathering eggs and seeing any type of rodent were not included in her likes. Working with her pony Sunny was a fun past time and as she grew older her love for dogs grew. She had several through the years, but Daisy held a special spot in her heart.

Judy graduated from Jefferson High School in 1969 and went onto Ellsworth Community College. AMF was her first “real” job, and she enjoyed working there alongside her coworkers.

Judy was united in marriage to Richard Burnell in 1976 and together they raised their daughter Christie, making their home on the Burnell homeplace north of town. Christie provided them with four grandchildren –  Patrick, Richard, and Christopher Daugherty along with Harper Pille –  who were the absolute apples to Judy’s eye. She loved them something fierce and went to their activities toting anything they may need.

Judy was full of life and caring for others, particularly her husband Rich, who she enjoyed traveling with throughout their years together. Among the places they traveled were Canada, Costa Rica, and a variety of places in Mexico. Judy enjoyed the sun and beaches the best and loved getting a deep, dark tan. Although Judy loved to travel her heart was in the country and she never wanted to move from the great treasures of her flowers, birds, and open spaces.

During her years of golf and cards she made many fond times with Booray group. Judy enjoyed that time together immensely, whether traveling the world or getting together in someone’s basement. Judy was involved in many clubs; Questers was always an adventure she loved to share.

Judy is survived by her husband Richard Burnell; daughter Christie Burnell; grandchildren Patrick, Richard, and Christopher Daugherty and Harper Pille; father-in-law Bob Burnell; sister-in-law Cindy Garvin (John); nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Ronnie and Dennis Jordan; mother-in-law Madeline Burnell; brother-in-law Buzz Burnell; and sister-in-law Candace Burnell.

Services were arranged by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson.
