The Greene County boys soccer team won two matches last week, improving their record to 8-1.
On April 24 the team hosted Logan-Magnolia, winning 10-0. Jose Velazco and Gesser Guiterres each scored four goals, with Kolby Angell and Bork Ersnes scoring one each. Ersnes was also credited with two assists, while Jack Hansen, Fredy Aguilar, Brynley Ruzicka and Gutierres were each credited with one.
“I’m proud of the guys playing our game, and not playing the other team’s pace and type of match,” commented coach Carl Behne.
Tuesday’s game was at Perry High School where the Rams won 3-2. All three goals were scored by Gutierres, with one assist each from Hansen and Angell. The team had eight shots on the goal in the match. Ram goalie Gabe Ebersole had 15 saves.
“The boys really played well the whole match, but the second half was our best overall half of soccer this year in a lot of ways,” said Behne. “Gabe was a rock in goal stopping 15 shots, many of which could have been goals if not for his strong goalkeeping instincts. I’m proud of the effort and we can certainly build from this.”
The Rams are scheduled to play on Monday at Linduska Field in Jefferson and on Saturday in Nevada.
