The Greene County boys soccer team added a win but suffered their first loss of the season last week. Weather caused Friday’s game to be canceled.

On April 18, the Rams hosted Winterset, winning 6-1. Four Ram goals were scored by Jose Velazco, with one each from Gesser Gutierres and Bork Ersnes. Ersnes was credited with two assists, with Velazco, Gutierres and Kolby Angell each with one. Goalie Gabe Ebersole had six saves in the game.

“Overall, Gabe and the back line did very well. Cody, Brayden, Brynley and Fredy are meshing well as a back line,” commented coach Carl Behne.

The Rams hosted Des Moines Christian on Thursday, falling 3-2. Velazco and Gutierres each scored a goal, with one assist from Angell. The Rams had 10 shots on goal in the match. Goalie Ebersole had three saves.

“It’s hard to win when you give up a goal in the first minute of the match, and give up a turn over that costs you a second goal with three seconds to go in the first half,” explained Behne. “We will let it sting tonight and move on in the morning.”

The Greene County girls soccer team had one match last week, falling 4-1 at West Marshall High School.

The lone Greene County goal was scored by Chanlyn Cunningham. Goalie Madison Kinsey had six saves in the game.
