Greene County district court, week ending April 21

In Greene County district court Daniel Alan Sturm, 42, of Carroll was granted a deferred judgment April 19 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must also complete a community college drinking drivers’ school. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 civil penalty; one-half was waived as Sturm has obtained a temporary restricted license. Benjamin Kenneth Johnston, 19, was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- fourth degree. He was placed on probation for one year to Boone/Greene County Probation and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. A judgment was entered for a $430 civil penalty and $136.50 court costs. A charge of supplying alcohol to person under legal age was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Eddie Ray Simpson II, 57, of Boxholm was sentenced to prison for a term not to exceed 15 years after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense as habitual offender. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must pay $1,000 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge against Simpson of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Steven Bret Wetzel, 53, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; Devin Julian Villalobos, 21, of Jefferson, driving while license revoked; Alex Garron Treft, 31, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; Travis Austin Smith, 32, of Churdan, driving while license barred; and Charles Edward Henderson, 31, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. Trial dates were set for July 18 for Wetzel and Villalobos, and for June 13 for Treft, Smith and Henderson.

Cases were initiated in district court against the following individuals; Andy Alexis Ortiz, 26, of Ankeny, false report of indictable offense to public entity; Marley Chantel Chambers, 32, of Granger, perjury; Yula May Foy, 51, of Fort Dodge, harassment- first degree; Denise Ann Kuhns, 39, of Grand Junction, possession of marijuana and child endangerment; Kayleigh Christine Harrah, 25, of Grand Junction, perjury, two separate cases, one count each; Michael Thomas Kennedy, 66, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Eric Anthony Grevson, 40, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- second offense and driving while license barred; and Benny Paul Pedersen, 35, of Lake city, driving while license barred.
