On April 18, 2023, Ruth Mildred Feldmann was called home into the arms of Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother. Her bedside was surrounded with ones she loved.
Funeral services were held April 21 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the mass concelebrated by Fr John Gerald and Fr Dan Guenther. Lectors were Ann Feldmann and Ken Feldmann. Sheliah Pound was soloist, accompanied by Michelle Fields. Honorary bearers were Kathryn Feldmann, Joseph Feldmann, Jacob Feldmann, Gabriel Feldmann, Maggie Klocke, Maxwell Neese, Joshua Feldmann, Quinn Feldmann, Ethan Feldmann, Alyson Feldmann, Emily Neese, Samuel Feldmann, Earl Witham, Emma Pliner, Else Witham, Ezek Witham, Edyn Witham, Haley Neese, Emmie Witham, Alex Pliner, Aaron Hauser, Tate Klocke, Colton Paul, Wednesday O’Barr, Deacon Pliner and Tru Duran.
Casket bearers were Zoe Hauser, Abigail Feldmann, Dylan Feldmann, Rachel Feldmann, Ben Feldmann and Molly Neese. Interment was at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Jefferson.
Ruth was born in Carroll on June 30, 1935. She was raised near Breda, in Carroll County, in a large, close-knit German Catholic family. Her mother, Rose Knobbe, was a remarkable woman who kept the family strong during difficult times. Grandma Rose saw to it that each of her daughters received a professional education.
Ruth was a capable and dedicated registered nurse who received her education at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll. Ruth performed a corporal act of mercy by attending to the sick during her service at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll and the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.
Ruth was active in parish life at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. She taught CCD, served on parish council, and was among the center of parish women’s groups. She assisted the settlement of immigrant families into the community. Her dearest friends were members of the parish.
Ruth was the heart of her large family. She and her husband Thomas saw to the upbringing and education of their seven children, which, at times, was not an easy task. She left a Legacy of faith among them.
Ruth joins her son Thomas, her husband Thomas, her parents, and several brothers and sisters in their final home in Heaven.
She is mourned by her children Keith (Alice) Feldmann of North Liberty, Ann (Connie Simpson) Feldmann of Mesa, AZ, Kenneth (Vicki) Feldmann of Mount Pleasant, Dennis (Holly) Feldmann of Fort Dodge, Donald (Jean) Feldmann of Jefferson, Katherine (Alan) Neese of Grand Junction, and Steven (Lisa) Feldmann of Iowa City; 32 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; 2 great-grandsons; her sisters Joan Heiman, Lucy Wolterman, Barbara McCabe, and Karen Eason; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends also share in their grief for her. They are grapevines around her table.
