Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Sunday, April 30: At 9:13 am a juvenile female requested an officer to take her to ER, as she was having thoughts of harming herself. The officer transported the subject to ER for an evaluation.
Saturday, April 29: At 1:15 am a complainant reported his drink was taken from him and he was not allowed to purchase anymore at Wild Rose Casino. The officer advised it was not a theft, as businesses have the right to cut people off from alcohol. At 10:48 am an officer investigated broken windows at a garage in the 600 block of W. Harrison St. The damage was reported by a neighbor, who heard the event and described three male juveniles leaving the area. At 4:28 pm a complainant reported a broken window in the alley at The Printer’s Box in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way. At 5:07 pm a complainant reported a broken window of a garage in the 300 block of S. Maple St. The officer is investigating.
Friday, April 28: At 8:53 am an officer was requested at a residence in the 100 block of W. Vest St fora wanted female hiding in the basement. The officer arrested Casey Lebeau, 23, of Minnesota on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for operation without owner’s consent*. At 5:58 pm a caller advised of persons driving through Washington Park and squealing tires on the alley. The officer identified the juveniles through area surveillance video and tracked them down. Chase Butler of Jefferson was cited for use of drives required. Michael Rumley was cited for careless driving. The officer did not locate any damage to the park. At 6:28 pm a caller advised of tree branches in the roadway near W. Adams St and Grimmell Rd. The officer removed them from the roadway.
Thursday, April 27: At 8:54 am a business owner requested an officer to speak to a male resident and advised them they are not welcome back at Junkyard Café. The officer advised the subject of the business owner’s wishes. At 12:27 pm staff at Sparky’s One-Stop requested an officer to advise a male subject he was no longer welcome at the business. The subject does not live in Jefferson. Sparky’s staff will ask the sheriff’s office to serve the subject with the ban and bar paperwork. At 1:41 pm a complainant reported staff at Junkyard Café were being harassed by a male subject in the alley. The officer mediated the situation. At 5:41 pm a caller advised of a stray dog in the 100 block of Ram Drive. The officer placed the dog in the Greene County Animal Shelter. At 6:15 pm an officer investigated a collision at N. Pinet and W. Adams Sts. Sydney Delp of Jefferson was westbound on Adams operating a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Kevin Kafer. Aarzu Khanna of Jefferson was southbound on Pinet driving his 2022 Honda CRV. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Delp was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on the right. Damage to the vehicle she was driving was estimated at $5,000. Damage to Khanna’s vehicle was estimated at $2,500. At 10:17 pm an officer investigated a single-vehicle accident in the 200 block of N. Elm St. Gerson Abraham Serrano Gomez of Jefferson was southbound operating his 2008 Buick Enclave when he struck a tree ono the west side of the road, slid across the roadway, and came to rest facing north on the east side of the street. Serrano Gomez was taken by ambulance to the Greene County Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries. The vehicle was a total loss and towed from the scene. The officer suspected alcohol played a role in the accident and gathered specimens for testing. Charges are pending results.
Wednesday, April 26: At 6 am a complainant reported witnessing a single-vehicle accident involving a semi tractor-trailer driver-truck and a city-owned sign pole. The officer investigated and found Matthew Urban of Omaha, NE, was backing a 2017 Freightliner semi with attached trailer southbound onto the 200 block of West Lincoln Way. While backing onto the roadway the rear of the trailer contacted a city-owned sign pole. The pole was knocked off its base causing approximately $1000 in damage. The trailer was undamaged. Urban was cited for striking fixtures. At 8:25 am a complainant reported a stray dog in the 700 block of S. Vine St. The officer picked up the small black and white dog and took it to the animal shelter. At 2:24 pm a complainant reported concerns for school-aged children in the neighborhood of S. Chestnut St south of Russell St after school dismissed in the afternoon. The officer is investigating.
Tuesday, April 25: At 4:55 pm an officer was dispatched to a vacant building in the 100 block of S. Wilson Ave for a report of several broken windows. The officer found the broken windows and the incident is under investigation.
Monday, April 24: At 1:50 pm a complainant reported a stray dog in the 1100 block of McDuffie Drive. The officer placed the dog in the animal shelter. At 2:43 staff at Stuart Memorial Hospital requested a welfare check on a subject in the 300 block of W. Washington St. The officer located the subject and eventually coaxed the subject to ER to be evaluated.
Sunday, April 23: At 1:23 am a complainant reported a stray dog in the 500 block of W. Lincoln Way. The officer located the animal but could not capture it. The dog returned home and the officer secured it in the fenced yard. The officer issued the owner a citation for animal at large- prohibited. At 3:29 pm a complainant reported a missing dog. He advised an older male took the dog a couple of weeks ago. The officer checked the animal shelter but didn’t locate the dog. The officer is investigating the report.

Friday, April 21: At 2:34 pm a complainant reported someone had struck his unattended 2005 Chevrolet 1500 at Greene County High School. Damage was estimated at $500. The officer is investigating.
Thursday, April 20: At 12:10 am a complainant advised he had struck a deer near Deer Run and Westwood Dr and the deer was still alive. The animal had died before the officer arrived.
Wednesday, April 19: At 8:15 am a complainant reported what he believed to be poor service at a local café. At 1:57 pm a complainant reported children, possibly in Jefferson, who are being hidden from DHS. The officer will share the information with DHS.
Tuesday, April 18: At 1:45 am staff atWild Rose Casino reported a cat outside the back door there. The officer could not capture the animal and offered a live trap. At 12:12 pm a complainant picked up three stray dogs near Cooper. The officer met her at the Greene County Animal Shelter and placed the dogs inside. At 12:32 pm staff at Home State Bank reported an angry customer there. The officer was requested to ban the subject from the bank. At 1:35 pm a Fed Ex driver captured a stray dog in the 900 block of W. State St. The dog was placed in the animal shelter. At 5:55 pm a complainant reported a trespass at a residence in the 900 block of W. Harrison St. Unknown subject(s) had opened the overhead garage door and left it open. At 10:07 pm staff at HyVee turned in a small baggy of suspected marijuana, which had been located at the store. The store staff will review video footage and try to identify who may have left the item in the store. The officer took possession of the baggy for destruction.
Monday, April 17: At 4:05 pm a complainant reported an opossum caught in his box of cans at Park Ave. South. The officer released the animal outside of the city. At 7:11 pm the Greene County Schools athletic director advised of a stray dog running freely at the track meet at Linduska Field. The officer placed the dog in the Greene County animal shelter.

Saturday, April 15: At 11:02 am a complainant reported the same stray dog that had been picked up the previous day was again loose in the 300 block of Edgewood. The officer placed the dog in the animal shelter and cited the owner for animal at large prohibited. At 6:52 pm staff at Regency Park requested an officer for a reported assault. The officer learned the family members of a resident had argued and it became physical. The officer’s investigation had led to arrest warrants being requested for Michael Kennedy, 70, of Jefferson for disorderly conduct, harassment- third degree, both simple misdemeanors, and assault causing bodily injury- serious misdemeanor*. At 8:22 pm an officer who was on duty at the Greene County HS prom was advised of possible underage drinkers at the event. The officer’s investigation led to charges of possession of alcohol under legal age in juvenile court for a 16-year-old female and a 17-year-old female*. McKinley Robbins, 18, of Scranton and Kale Peterson, 18, of Rockwell City will receive summons to appear for possession of alcohol under legal age*. Parents were contacted to pick up the juveniles and all had to leave the prom.
Friday, April 14: At 4:51 pm the Perry PD requested assistance from a Jefferson officer with a Perry PD case involving the illegal dumping of animals. The officer is assisting as needed. At 5:53 pm a complainant reported a stray dog in the 300 block of Edgewood Dr. The officer placed the dog in the Greene County animal shelter. At 9:42 pm a complainant reported a possible burglary in the 300 block of E. Lincoln Way. The officer is investigating.

Wednesday, April 12: At 5:58 pm a complainant reported two female juveniles sitting in the roadway near N. Mulberry St and Central Ave. The officer located the juveniles and spoke to them about the dangers involved with this type of behavior. A parent arrived to pick up the juveniles. At 8:30 pm a complainant who had reported his fence had been damage a few days prior reported juveniles at his fence. He advised the officer which house the children ran to after being confronted. The officer met with the juveniles and a parent. The denied damaging the fence and no one had witnessed them doing so. The officer warned them to stay away from the area.
Tuesday, April 11: At 10:13 am a complainant reported harassment by a known female. The officer is investigating. At 3:23 a resident advised she had caught a kitten in the 300 block of S. West St. The officer placed the cat in the animal shelter. At 5:57 pm a father requested an officer at a residence in the 300 block of S. Olive St for an assault. The officer’s investigation led to charges being sent to juvenile court for a 13-year-old male for domestic abuse assault (simple misdemeanor) and domestic abuse assault causing injury (serious misdemeanor)*.
Monday, April 10: At 2:47 pm a complainant reported the rear side window was broken out of his vehicle while it was parked near the baseball field at 101 Ram Dr. Nothing was missing from the vehicle, which had been parked there a couple days.
Sunday, April 9: At 6:17 am a deputy requested an officer to look out for a vehicle involved in a case in Grand Junction. The vehicle was located in Jefferson. At 1:42 pm an officer arrested conducted a traffic stop on near N. Elm St and Hwy 30 that resulted in the arrest of Candice Marie Ortiz, 35, of Grand Junction for driving while license barred- serious misdemeanor*.
Saturday, April 8: At 1:54 am a subject provided information to an officer concerning subjects selling illegal narcotics at Wild Rose Casino. The officer is investigating. At 12:22 pm a complainant reported someone unloading large amounts of trash from a vehicle at the car wash at 902 N. Vine St. The officer met with the subject at the car wash and advised him to pick up the trash, which he did before leaving. At 5:45 pm a complainant reported damage to a fence in the 100 block of N. Oak St. The officer is investigating. At 11 pm a complainant reported a subject caught on video going through her vehicle overnight in the 600 block of S. Oak St. Nothing was missing or damaged. The officer will work to identify the subject captured on video.
Friday, April 7: At 2:52 pm an officer responded to an alarm activation at City Hall. Staff members believed a wanted subject was there and activated the panic button. The subject left before the officer arrived. At 4:44 pm an officer investigated a collision on Hwy 30 just east of M Ave. Isaiah Podewils of Glidden was westbound on Hwy 30 driving his 2016 Ford Fusion. He slowed due to traffic in front of him. His vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2007 Ford Fusion owned and operated by Hannah Anderson of Carroll. Anderson was cited for fail to stop in assured clear distance ahead. Damage to the vehicles was estimated at $5,000 each. At 7:09 pm an officer investigated a collision in the 1100 block of Westwood Dr. Kandie Kraft of Grand Junction was eastbound on Westwood Dr operating a 2013 Ford F150 pickup truck owned by Danny Kraft when she sideswiped a westbound 2018 Chevy K250 owned and operated by Allen Jacob of Churdan. Kraft advised she had fallen asleep and crossed the centerline. She was cited for fail to yield half of roadway when meeting a vehicle. Each vehicle sustained an estimated $1,500 in damage.
Thursday, April 6: At 1:05 am an officer noticed a female slumped over the steering wheel, at Sparky’s One Stop. The officer checked on the female to determine if she needed medical assistance. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Larissa Mae Hornsby, 27, of Jefferson for operating while intoxicated (serious misdemeanor)*. At 2:25 am a complainant reported he had rented a room at Cobblestone Inn and that the curtains in his room would not close all the way. *****An officer has requested arrest warrants for a female involved in a situation at Wild Rose Casino on 4/03. The requested warrants are for Yula Mae Foy, 51, of Fort Dodge on charges of harassment- first degree (aggravated misdemeanor) and disorderly conduct (simple misdemeanor)*.
Wednesday, April 5: At 7:19 am a complainant reported unauthorized use of her debit card. The officer is investigating. At 3:49 pm staff at Bomgaars reported the theft of tools. A male subject took the tools out the rear entrance and ran around to building to a vehicle and left without paying for the items. Surveillance cameras at a nearby business recorded the subject carrying the items around the building and fleeing in the car. The officer is investigating.
Tuesday, April 4: At 2:59 pm a complainant reported a subject trespassing at a residence in the 700 block of N. Cedar St.
Monday, April 3: At 9:56 am a complainant reported a missing stop sign at N. Vine and E. State Sts. The city crew was contacted to replace the sign. At 3:29 pm an officer performed a traffic stop near S. Elm and Edgewood Dr. During the stop, the officer could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer located a smoking device during a consent search and seized it. Charges are pending. At 8:06 pm staff at Wild Rose Casino requested an officer for a disruptive patron. The subject had left the property before the officer arrived. The subject made threats towards staff before leaving. The officer is investigating.
Sunday, April 2: At 11:37 am an officer assisted a Greene County deputy with an assault investigation. At 11:50 am an officer was called to a residence in the 300 block of N. Wilson Ave in regard to a theft of a package. The officer determined the package was left at the rear door and a theft had not occurred.
