Boys open with pair of wins
The Greene County boys soccer team has seen two wins so far to start its season, one against Boone and the other against West Marshall High School.
On March 28 the Rams traveled to Boone, bringing home a 6-0 win. Greene County was up 3-0 at half, with all three scores by Gesser Guiterres. In the second half of the match, Aguilar scored twice more, with one goal from Teagan Chisholm. Jack Hansen, Landon Carstens, Chad Maston, Aguilar and Chisholm were each credited with an assist throughout the game. Goalie Gabe Ebersole had three saves against the Trojans.
“Overall, a strong opening night for the Rams. Proud of the effort, communication and passing. We had great minutes from many guys on the bench who didn’t make the score sheet, including Mylo Taute and Cody McCollom,” commented coach Carl Behne. “Our defense played well and we are beginning to gel as a unit. Minor things to work on, but we’re looking more like mid-season than ever before.”
The team traveled to West Marshall High School on Thursday, winning 6-2. Gutierres had three goals in the game, with Jose Velazco, Kolby Angell and Bork Ersnes each scoring one. Velazco also had two assists in the game. Ebersole was credited with three saves as goalie.
A match scheduled for April 4 was cancelled due to threatening weather. The Ram host Carroll High on Friday.
Girls drop two games
The Greene County girls soccer team started off its season with two games last week, both ending in losses for the Rams.
On March 28, the girls faced Grand View Christian, falling 3-2. Both Ram goals were scored by Esther Van Horn, with Chanlyn Cunningham being credited with an assist. Goalie Madison Kinsey had nine saves in the game.
Thursday was a 12-0 loss at Van Meter High School for the Rams. Kinsey had eight saves in the night.
