Ram track & field teams at BVU indoor meet

The Greene County track and field teams finished the indoor season at the Buena Vista Indoor Elite Meet in Storm Lake March 18.

The Greene County track and field teams finished the indoor season at the Buena Vista Indoor Elite Meet in Storm Lake March 18. No team scores were kept for the 14 teams competing.

In girls competition, Olivia Shannon placed first in the 60m dash in 8.19 seconds. The all-senior 4 X 400m relay team of Shannon, Natalie Heupel, Kamryn Sanders and Katrina Heupel placed first with a time of 4:23.23. That same relay team placed second in the 4 X 200m relay with a time of 1:52.19.

Shannon placed second in the long jump at 16’ 3”. Shannon competed in the long jump for the first at this same meet a year ago and went on to qualify for the state meet. Her leap Saturday was nearly 2 feet farther than she jumped a year ago according to coach Derek Merk.

Fourth place finishes were earned by Natalie Heupel in the 400m dash in 1:05.04, and by Payton Kokenge in the high jump with a jump of 4’10”. Katrina Heupel placed fifth in the 400m dash in 1:05.13. Sixth place finishes were recorded by Danielle Madsen in the shot put with a throw of 31’ 2-1/2”, and Hailey Carman in the 800m run with a time of 2:54.95.

Girls coach is Derek Merk.

Boys head coach Chad Morton reports Nick Madsen set a new freshman school record in the 200m race with a time of 24.81 seconds, good for fifth place.

The highest place earned was third place by the distance medley relay team of Camden Strennen, Jesse Miller, Madsen and Drew Wolterman with a time of 3:59.21.

Fourth place finishes came from Kamden Kinne in the shot put with a throw of 39’ 5” and Noah Hinote in the 800m run with a time of 2:14.58.

Fifth places finishes, in addition to Madsen’s, were Lane Fields in the high jump at 5’ 8”, and Broc Hamman in the shot put with a throw of 39’ 1”.

The Rams open the outdoor portion of the season with the Early Bird Meet Monday, March 27, at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
