The Greene County girls basketball season came to an end last week, but not before the girls finally picked up a win.
On Monday, Feb. 6, the Rams hosted Southeast Valley, falling 67-18. Emma Shipley scored eight points in the game, with Esther Van Horn scoring three, and Alexa Peters scoring one. Kamryn Sanders had nine rebounds and one steal, Ashlynn Hinners had three rebounds, one block and two assists, and Kaycee Pittman had three rebounds and one assist.
The team shot at 19.4 percent on two-pointers and21.4 percent from 3-point range. The Rams committed 28 turnovers and 15 fouls.
Tuesday brought the Rams a win, facing Saydel at Wells Fargo Arena, coming away with their first win of the season.
The Rams went out 21-9 in the first quarter over Saydel but the score was tied at 18 at the break The Rams outscored Saydel 25-13 in the second half to pick up their first victory of the season, 43-31.
Peters scored 11 points, Shipley put up eight and Emma Hoyle added six points. Hoyle also had 11 rebounds and two steals, Sanders had 10 rebounds, one block and three assists, and Hinners had four rebounds. As a team, the Rams had 41 rebounds, 13 assists, 10 steals, one block, 12 turnovers and 13 fouls.
The Rams visited West Marshall High School on Saturday for the first round of districts. Greene County lost 69-24, ending their season.
Greene County played a closer game with conference foe West Marshall but the team still didn’t have the fire power to stay with the Trojans. The Rams trailed 14-9 after the first period. WM went to work in the second, opening up a 31-16 lead at halftime. GC struggled in the second half, scoring just eight points as the Trojans began their trek to the Class 3A state tournament with a 69-24 victory.
Hoyle scored seven points with six rebounds, Peters had four points, seven boards, one steal and two assists, and Sanders scored four points with three assists. As a team, the Rams had 40 rebounds, 16 assists, 20 steals, five blocks, 10 turnovers and five fouls.
The game was the last for the Ram seniors for Hoyle, Peters, Kamryn Sanders, and Ashlynn Hinners.
Greene County will return to the court next season, hoping to improve on their 1-21 season.
