The public is invited to “Meet Your Legislators” Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10 am at the Welcome Center, 201 E. Lincoln Way, Jefferson. The event is sponsored by the board of Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County as a community service, as the importance of an informed electorate was a strongly held belief of former President Thomas Jefferson.
State Senator Jesse Green and Representative Carter Nordman, who represent Greene County in the Iowa legislature, have committed to attend the forum. Longtime Jefferson journalist and retired editor/publisher of the Jefferson Bee and Herald, Rick Morain, will serve as moderator.
In his second term, Green represents Senate District 24 which is composed of Greene, Boone, Guthrie and part of Dallas counties. He lives in Boone. He serves on the following standing committees: agriculture, appropriations, education, local government and natural resources and environment.
Nordman, also in his second term, represents House District 47 which includes Greene, Guthrie and part of Dallas counties. A Guthrie county resident, Nordman serves on the following committees: appropriations, commerce, education appropriations subcommittee (chair), judiciary and local government.
Questions will be taken from the audience in writing submitted on cards to the moderator. The event will conclude at 11 am. Subsequent forums are scheduled for March 11 and April 8.
