The Greene County High School vocal music department has a full calendar for February and March.
The high school will be a host site for the Iowa High School Music Association state jazz choir festival Monday, Feb. 6. The first group will perform at 5 pm, with Greene County scheduled for 7:40. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for students.
The second annual All That Jazz vocal jazz festival will be held Friday, Feb. 24. “This is a very exciting event, as we will have two world class vocal jazz clinicians/performers spending a few days in town,” vocal music teacher Dave Heupel said. “Kate Reid from Miami and Charlie Christenson from Boston will be with us in a clinic/concert format. They will spend the day as clinicians working with groups from several other schools that have registered for the event.”
Reid and Christenson will then perform in concert at 7 pm in the high school auditorium. Tickets will be available for $10.
“I feel this is an incredible opportunity for our community to see some truly top notch musicians right here in our own backyard, at a price you wouldn’t find anywhere else,” Heupel said.
The vocal music department, with assistance from the instrumental department and other adult instrumentalists, will present “The Addams Family Musical” March 3-5. Tickets will be available for $10 for adults and $5 for students. “This is a fun show and we are enjoying rehearsals so far,” Heupel said.
The music department will present its annual Pops Concert Tuesday, March 7. Admission is free.
The music department will host one of the sites for the Class 3A IHSMA State Solo/Small Ensemble Festival Saturday, March 25. Solos and groups will be performing throughout the day at the high school. The ISHSMA charges an admission fee.
