The Greene County girls basketball team had two road games last week, falling to South Hamilton on Tuesday and PCM on Friday.
South Hamilton is ranked 13th in Class 2A with an 11-2 record. They demonstrated why they are an elite team in a 73-20 victory over the Rams. The Hawks blew out to a 22-6 first quarter lead and held a 42-10 advantage at the break. The second half was more of the same as Greene County was no match for the experienced Hawks.
Kamryn Sanders scored six points, Emma Hoyle put five on the board and Ashlynn Hinners was responsible for four points. Sanders also had eight rebounds, one block and one assist. Emma Shipley had three rebounds and one assist for the Rams. The team had 20 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. The Rams made eight of 30 shots from 2-point range and one of five shots from 3-point range. They committed 10 fouls and turned the ball over 25 times.
The Rams fell 39-17 to PCM on Friday. The Mustangs galloped out to a 13-4 lead in the first and expanded it to 26-7 at halftime. The second half was more of the same as PCM coasted to the 39-17 win.
Alexa Peters led in points for the night with seven, Hoyle scored five and Kaycee Pittman had three. Hoyle and Payton Kokenge had six rebounds each. Shooting was 15.4 percent from 2-point range and 16.7 percent beyond the arc. The Rams committed 29 turnovers and 10 fouls.
Standings in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference as of Jan. 23 are South Hamilton 8-1, West Marshalll 8-1, Roland-Story 7-2, Nevada 5-4, PCM 5-5, Perry 2-7, Saydel 2-7, Greene County 0-10.
