Ram wrestlers third in HOIAC tourney

The Greene County wrestling team had a busy week, participating in a duals tournament on Tuesday (Jan. 17), the conference tournament on Friday and another tournament on Saturday.

On the schedule for the Rams this week is the Charger Invitational Tournament on Saturday at AC/GC High School in Guthrie Center. 

Tuesday’s home dual meet brought the Rams face to face with Roland-Story, where the Rams took the win 54-27. Gavin Winters, Jacob Harmeyer, Crew Conner, Kale Petersen, McKinley Robbins, Brent Dennhardt, Jackson Turner, Braeden Turner and Gavin Scheuermann each earned points for Greene County.

145 – Brent Dennhardt won by fall over Anthony Jones 0:05.

The Rams faced a loss to West Marshall, falling 48-31. Winters, Harmeyer, Petersen, Robbins, Dennhardt and Turner put up points for the Rams.

On Friday, the Rams traveled to Perry High School for the Heart of Iowa Conference Wrestling Tournament. Greene County placed third out of eight teams, with eight Rams placing individually. Winters, Petersen, Robbins and Dennhardt each brought home the gold in their classes. Harmeyer and Conner each finished fourth and Turner took fifth in his weight class.

126 – Crew Conner received a bye; lost by fall to Kinnick Geers 2:41; received a bye; lost by sudden victory to Jaden Grimm 4-2, fourth place.

Four Greene County wrestlers attended the Ed Winger Classic at Urbandale High School on Saturday. The Rams tied with Fort Madison for 19th place out of 24 teams. Robbins took second place in the 138 weight class, losing due to a medical forfeit, which counts as his first loss of the season. Winters placed fifth in the 106 class.
