Greene County district court, week ending Jan. 20

In Greene County district court a judgment was entered Jan. 19 against Janice Kay Fox, 59, of Fort Dodge on a charge of theft- fifth degree, amended from unauthorized use of credit card less than $1,500. Fox must pay $124 victim restitution, as well as a $105 fine with a $15.75 surcharge. The court found her unable to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees or court costs. William Joseph Duff, 21, of Scranton was sentenced Jan. 16 to four days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of two days of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Duff was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Melissa Sue Dopheide, 41, of Breda was sentenced to seven days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- simple, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. The jail sentence was suspended and she was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. Dopheide was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. Court costs were $131.50. Steven Darwin Meister, 58, of Woodward was sentenced to seven days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense, amended from operating while intoxicated- third offense. Meister was given credit for time spent in inpatient treatment and time previously served in jail. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must also complete a community college drinking driver’s school. Meister was fined $1,875 with a $218.25 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Nicole Sage, 56, of Grand Junction was sentenced to one year in jail, with all but 30 days suspended, after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. She was placed on probation for two years to the Iowa Department of Corrections. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must also complete a community college drinking drivers school. Sage was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 fine; one-half will be waived if she obtains a temporary restricted license. The court found her to be unable to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Eric William Chrystal, 62, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Chrystal must pay a $430 civil penalty. The court found him to be unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Sierra Kimberly Szaflarski, 32, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Yvonne Marie Locke, 47, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Luke Raymond Holinski, 26, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Grace Holinski, 19, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Daniel David Holinsky, 22, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Brendan Joseph Hesser, 42, of Boone, gambling- avoid set-off, fraudulent practices- third degree; Silas William Naylor, 23, of Fort Dodge, possession of marijuana; Caleb Ernest Johnson, 30, of Jefferson, OWI- second offense; and Darren Scott Lehrkamp, 30, of Scranton, criminal mischief- third degree, intimidation with dangerous weapon, and going armed with intent. Trial dates were set for April 4 in every case.

Information is available since the return of arrest warrants that Eric Christopher Rosenow, 39, of Jefferson is charged with possession of methamphetamine- third offense and possession of marijuana; and that Ashley Marie Kuenster, 32, of Gilbert is charged with possession of methamphetamine- third offense, possession of marijuana- third offense, and theft first degree.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Dillon Wayne Davis, 24, of Lake City, OWI- third offense; Eddie Ray Simpson II, 57, of Boxholm, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense, and possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; Nikki Kay Henderson, 61, of Jefferson, possession of controlled substance- prescription, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of prescription drug; and Edward Kanneh, 22, of Altoona, domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow.
