Students in the Greene County Career Academy Health Care Pathway heard from Lauren Carlson and Sydney Schiltz Nov. 10 in Jill Wanninger’s nurse aide class. Carlson and Schiltz went through the healthcare program in high school. After they graduated from Greene County High School in 2018, they attended Iowa Central Community College to earn their LPN degrees and then went on to earn their bachelors of science degrees.
Carlson is a nurse at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames and Schiltz works fulltime as a nurse at Greene County Medical Center and PRN as a traveling nurse.
Carlson and Schiltz told the students of the many different types of nursing including bedside, clinical, legal claims, working from home, home health care, and nurse recruiting, to name a few.
Both nurses encouraged the students to apply for nursing school early and to apply for all scholarships.
Carlson and Schiltz said they liked attending Iowa Central because the teachers were helpful and they prepared them to be successful nurses. They also liked the free and fun activities available to students on campus.
