The Greene County football season came to an end last Friday after a 43-7 home loss to the West Lyon Wildcats in the second round of postseason play.
The game started with scores from both teams, with the scoreboard reading 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Lyons scored on their first possession but Greene County countered with a nine play, 79 yard drive. Senior Richard Daugherty caught a pass from junior quarterback Gabe Ebersole and raced 34 yards for a touchdown. Nathan Behne was spot on for the PAT.
The Rams were unable to add points to the board throughout the rest of the night, while the Wildcats extended their lead each quarter. The score was 19-7 at the break. The Lyons were in control, boosting the score to 43-7 and starting the continuous clock with six minutes to play in the game.
West Lyon rolled to 362 yards of offense while their defense limited Greene County to 203 yards. The Rams suffered four turnovers.
Patrick Daugherty led the team in rushing yards with 31 yards in the night, with Gabe Ebersole adding 25. Ebersole was also credited with 156 passing yards, junior Jack Hansen receiving 71 of those yards. P. Daugherty had 14.5 tackles, with junior Cody Allen at 10.5 and senior Richard Daugherty tackling nine times.
Playing their final football game as seniors were the Daugherty brothers (Patrick and Richard), Jesse Miller, Josh Janssen and Bork Ersnes (foreign exchange student).
The Rams finished the season with a winning 8-2 record. Their losses were to Kuemper Catholic (state qualifier) and West Lyon.
