Letter to the Editor,
When people run for public office, it is generally because they feel they can make a difference, have the energy and ambition to devote to it, and the desire to do the best job possible for those they represent. In our opinion, this describes Mike Holden, candidate for Greene County board of supervisors.
Leadership, innovative thinking, consensus building, and a dedication to learn, are essential when serving on boards and committees. Mike has been a proven leader and has shown himself to be good at all these things while serving on many organizations in our community, which includes his time on the Jefferson-Scranton Community Schools board. I served with him for a few of those years on the local school board and was always impressed with his diligence, effort, knowledge, ideas and most of all his passion for the job. We’ve known Mike since our high school years, and one of his most admirable traits is his willingness to still be your friend, even when you disagree!
Greene County, Jefferson, and the surrounding communities are in a position to be leaders in keeping rural Iowa strong and relevant. The board of supervisors needs individuals serving who will create, develop, and support strategies to do so. Mike shares this passion for Greene County and we think he can help bring all necessary groups together to make good things happen. Let’s help Mike make Greene County the most desirable place to work, live, visit, play and stay for all residents.
Sincerely, Karen and Doug Lawton, rural Jefferson
