More winners of competitions at the Iowa State Fair have been announced.
Marianne Carlson of Jefferson won the Sweepstakes Award in the King Arthur Baking Company yeast roll contest judged Aug. 18. Entries were judged on flavor, appearance and texture. Her prowess with cinnamon rolls helped clinch the award.
Carlson placed first in the cinnamon rolls (frosted or glazed) division, first in the cinnamon rolls (with nuts) division, second in the sweet rolls other than named division, and third in the whole wheat pan rolls division,
She won second place and $300 in the Templeton Rye desserts competition judged Aug. 19. Entries were judged on flavor, presentation and overall incorporation of Templeton Rye.
Two local lamb producers placed in the Wether sire/dam sheep show
Wolf Club Lambs of Scranton placed first in black face yearling ewe 176-190; fourth in black face ewe lamb 116-129; and second and third in white face/speckled ram lamb 122.5-159;
Shahan Club Lambs of Jefferson placed sixth in black face ewe lamb 95-115.5; and ninth in black face ewe lamb 116-129.
Muir Family Farms of Rippey placed first in the MT spring yearling heifer- March 1-April 30, 1021 in the Maine/anjou cattle show. Muir also placed first in junior heifer calf – Jan. 1-Feb. 28 2022; and first in cow/calf. Muir Family Farms showed the champion junior heifer calf.
