Plans for the 2022 Scranton Community Fundraiser event are being finalized. Saturday, September 17, is the date for the third such event. All festivities will be held in the Scranton Community Center gymnasium.
Supper will be provided by Greene County producer groups and Lidderdale Country Store. Soft drinks and the popular ice cream bar will be available as well.
Silent auction items will be displayed for bidding when the doors open at 5 pm. Following supper there will be a live auction featuring a number of interesting items.
The evening will conclude with live music by the band, Dirt Road Divide.
Scranton entities that will benefit from this fundraiser include the Scranton Community Center, Scranton fire department, Marchant Memorial Library, and the four Scranton parks: Pond Park, Gazebo Park, Scranton City Park, and the Scranton School Memorial Park.
The Community Center board plans to use proceeds toward outfitting an emergency generator to serve the community center’s spaces. This would be especially helpful in the event of severe weather that causes large power outages.
The fire department will put proceeds toward its new fire station fund.
The library plans to do some upgrades to furnishings in the young children’s area.
Finally, the parks department will use funds toward park maintenance, including wood fiber that cushions children under the parks’ playground equipment. There are specific maintenance plans for work at Gazebo Park as well.
Advance tickets (suggested) can be purchased from any fundraiser committee member or at the Peoples Bank in Scranton, starting Sept. 1. Payment can also be made at the door the night of the event. Carry-outs will be available, but must be called in to Peoples Bank (Scranton location only) by Wednesday, Sept. 14. ~ courtesy of The Scranton Journal
