Organizers of the Relay for Life of Greene County are making final preparations for this year’s Relay, slated for Tuesday, July 26, in downtown Jefferson.
Survivors and their caregivers will gather at the historical museum at 4 pm for a brief reception and a group photo. They’ll then walk the Survivor Lap on the brick walking path at Thomas Jefferson Gardens.
Luminaria are available now online at www.relayforlife.org/greenecountyiowa or that day.
A supper featuring grilled Italian chicken sandwiches or tenderloins will be served on the southeast corner of the courthouse grounds from 4:30 until the food runs out. Curbside service nearby will be available by calling 515-370-3087 during the Relay. The free will donation supper will be the farmers market meal that week. HyVee and Junkyard Café are supper sponsors so all donations will benefit Relay for Life.
The Town & Country Band will perform summertime favorites on the courthouse lawn at 5:30. Seating will be available.
Those who wish to honor the Relay tradition and walk are welcome to walk the perimeter of the courthouse square or on the path at Thomas Jefferson Gardens.
“We hear so often of loved ones and community members receiving a cancer diagnosis,” said Tori Riley, Relay event leadership team chair. “Much of the money raised at Relays across the country is used by the American Cancer Society for research that leads to better outcomes for cancer patients. We’ve come a long way in the fight against cancer, but there’s still a lot of work to do. Your financial support of Relay for Life is important.”
