Local author Lynn Menz to present library program

The Jefferson public library will present the next author in its 2022 Author Series.  Local author Lynn Menz will talk about his latest books, “Observations from a Questioning Mind” and “Maui: Its Call, Its Magic” on Tuesday, June 21, at 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.

Lynn and his wife Ellie enjoy spending time on the Hawaiian island of Maui in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean. Lynn has written about the intriguing things he has learned there and invites readers to come along with him as he shares his experiences and adventures on this magical island.  “As you read, you may hear paradise calling you to come, too,” he adds.

Between the covers of his book, “Observations,” are pages filled with experiences, thoughts, observations and questions during selected times in Menz’s life.  Menz says, “Life is a journey!  The older one gets the more it becomes apparent that the journey is filled with stories.  I believe they should be written down and appreciated.”  In this book, Menz has created word pictures for readers to enjoy and contemplate, and be stimulated to see things from another point of view.

These are Menz’s second and third books, following the first book, “Ramblings from the Upper Deck,” published in 2013.

Menz grew up in Fenton, IA, and attended Waldorf College in Forest City and the University of Northern Iowa. He taught 9th grade physical science in Jefferson from 1968 to 1984. He and Ellie have built businesses and a home together and have two children and three grandchildren. His interests include travel, raising bonsai trees, horticulture, trees and astronomy.

“Lynn experiences life through deep thought and introspection.  As we read his stories, we are invited to observe life more deeply, ponder what is meaningful to us and be mindful about the world around us,” said library director Jane Millard.

This program is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.

Copies of Menz’s books will be available to purchase at the program and he will gladly autograph them. Copies are also available to check out at the Jefferson public library and may be purchased on Amazon.com.
