This year, the Rotary Club of Jefferson handed out its annual “Professional of the Year” and “Avenues of Service” awards. Becky Wolf, director of Greene County public health, was honored as the Professional of the Year. Jonathan Law was recognized with the Avenues of Service award.
The Professional of the Year award is given annually to an individual who exemplifies the objectives of Rotary through commitment to his or her community and vocation. The awardee is not necessarily a Rotarian. Becky Wolf, director of Greene County public health, was recognized for her commitment to fighting the COVID pandemic in Jefferson and Greene County. She liaised routinely with state and national officials to provide up-to-date guidance on masking, vaccinations, closures and more. She organized testing and vaccination clinics and worked tirelessly for months on end to keep Greene County citizens safe. The Jefferson Rotary Club was honored to present the award to such a worthy recipient.
Jonathan Law, an attorney at Mumma & Pederson Law Firm, was honored with the Avenues of Service award for his various volunteer activities. The award is given to one Rotarian each year in recognition of an individual’s fulfillment of Rotary’s five avenues of service – service to the local club, to his or her profession, to the community, to youth, and to the world.
Having served as Rotary president during the pandemic, Law was chosen in recognition of his leadership through that challenging time. He helped organize Rotary’s Annual Charity Auction, established Zoom meetings during the pandemic, and has assisted with the Rotary Interact Club leaf-raking and tree-planting at the Rotary Outdoor Classroom.
Rotary typically recognizes its award recipients at its annual Christmas Party in December, but was unable to do so last December due to the COVID pandemic. Instead, the 2021 recipients were honored at the Jefferson Rotary Club’s recent centennial celebration on May 15, 2022.
