In Greene County district court James Martin Moreland Jr, 47, of Perry was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. A charge of ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise was dismissed. Court costs were $144.66. (Sentencing: Honorable Christopher C. Polking)
Christopher Robin Lawrence, 42, of Jefferson was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with all but seven days suspended, after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of two days of the jail time. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation at his own expense. Lawrence was fined $1,875 with a $281.25 surcharge. Court costs were $155. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. A judgment for a $105 fine with a $15.75 surcharge was entered against Jesse Dean Hermansen, 32, of Jefferson after he pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving, amended from OWI- first offense. Court costs were $60. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Zachery Allen Waters, 25, of Jefferson pleaded not guilty June 6 to charges of attempted murder, dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by domestic abuser, burglary- third degree, use of dangerous weapon in commission of crime, operate vehicle without owner’s consent, eluding at speed more than 25 mph over limit, and assault while display dangerous weapon. A trial date was set for July 5.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending June 10 as follows: Melissa Sue Dopheide, 40, of Breda, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Brandy Nicole Ranker, 36, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; and Tory Richard Beger, 28, of Grand Junction, OWI.
