Concert, food trucks at Thomas Jefferson Gardens June 17

The popular local Town and Country band will be the feature of the second concert of the summer series  hosted by Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County on Friday, June 17.  An added highlight of the evening will be the food trucks parked outside the gardens.

The food trucks will serve starting at 5 pm and the concert will begin at 6 pm.  The public is invited to the Gardens at 201 E. Lincoln Way.  Although there will be some chairs provided, attendees may want to bring a lawn chair.

The Town and Country Band is a favorite comprised of area residents who all share a love of music and are part of the band for the sheer joy of it. Directed by Victoria Anderson, the band participates in many community functions, parades, holiday music programs and more.  The band’s style is toe-tapping and fun for any age audience.

Formed in early 1999, its first performances were on Memorial Day 1999 in Churdan and Bayard.  Since then the Town and Country Band has played in every town in Greene County, at the Iowa Municipal Band Festival in Boone, at the Iowa State Fair, and even provided dance music at a wedding reception. Members range in age from seventh grade to well past retirement with various music backgrounds and jobs/careers.  Victoria Anderson is TCB’s fifth director and has been director for seven years.

The food trucks for the evening will be Cooks Snack Shack, Tiger Express, Kate’s Kookies and the local Action Club may also serve popcorn.  “We’re excited to offer a fun Friday night outing that the whole family can enjoy,” said Jean Van Gilder.  “Dinner and a concert in a beautiful location is hard to beat.”

The Thomas Jefferson Gardens board has arranged six concerts over the summer months for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. Generous sponsors have made these concerts possible along with other donations. For more information, go to www.tjgardens.org or to the Thomas Jefferson Gardens’ Facebook page.
