The Greene County baseball team has seen plenty of field time the past two weeks, adding two wins and five losses to their season total.
On Monday, May 23, the Rams traveled to Saydel to take on the Eagles. Greene County was unable to score a run in the game, while the Rams allowed 10 by Saydel, ultimately losing 10-0. The Rams had three hits for the night, two singles by Max Riley and one from Bryce Stalder.
Stalder pitched for the majority of the game, allowing 10 hits, eight runs and three walks. Joe Carey also found himself on the pitcher’s mound, with two hits, two runs and one walk.
Friday of the same week, the Rams picked up a win against South Hamilton, taking the game 6-4. Brayden Roberts hit a home run for Greene County, with Stalder and Roberts each hitting doubles as well.
Carey was credited for the pitching win, issuing four hits and three runs off 107 pitches. Matthew Hovick threw 35 times with two hits and one run.
Last Tuesday, May 31, the Rams lost 21-5 at home against Van Meter, the defending Class 2A state champion. In the batter’s box, Gabe Ebersole and Stalder had the big hits with a triple each. Pitching for the night was Justin Stream, Blake Hamann, Gabe Ebersole and Trey Schilling. Between the four pitchers, they allowed 12 hits, 21 runs and 21 walks.
Wednesday’s game was a win for the Rams in Prairie City. The PCM Mustangs and the Rams each scored one run in the first inning, with no more runs until the third. Then the Mustangs scored two runs, the last two they scored in the night. The Rams went on to score 13 more runs. Greene County pounded out 14 hits with 11 singles and three doubles. From the pitcher’s mound Stalder allowed four hits with one walk and one hit batter.
On June 3, the Rams faced West Marshall, losing 10-0, followed by a 11-10 loss against the Boone Toreadors on Saturday.
