In Greene County district court Peggy Sue Fulton, 60, of Ames was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty midway through a bench trial to a charge of assault. The charge was amended from wanton neglect of a health care facility resident. Fulton was placed on probation for one year to Boone/Greene County Probation and she must pay a $105 civil penalty. A charge of dependent adult abuse was dismissed. Court costs were $641.73. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
John Patrick Mahlberg, 27, of Dawson was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. All but two days of the jail sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for 12 months. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. If he chooses to serve the jail time he must complete a 12-hour impaired driver’s course. He has already undergone a substance abuse evaluation. Mahlberg was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $248.40 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Todd Edward Geisler, 50, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. He was placed on informal probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He has completed a substance abuse evaluation and must complete recommendations of that evaluation. He has completed a 12-hour impaired driver’s course. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 civil penalty; one-half was waived as he has already obtained a temporary restricted license. Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: William Joseph Duff, 20, of Scranton, OWI- first offense; Nicholas Scott Weber, 21, of Scranton, eluding causing injury while intoxicated under the influence of drugs or participating in a felony, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense, and conspiracy with intent to deliver marijuana less than 50 grams; and Michael David Teeples, 29, of Jefferson, intimidation with dangerous weapon, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, false imprisonment (three counts), harassment- first degree (two counts), and prostitution. Trial dates were set for Aug. 23 for Duff and Weber, and for July 19 for Teeples.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Jamie Alan Gumm, 45, of Des Moines is charged with ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise, and manufacture/deliver or possess with intent to deliver more than 5 kg of a mixture or substance containing detectable amount of methamphetamine.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Merissa Shawnay Olson, 32, of Jefferson, harassment- first degree; Michelle Ann Cook, 22, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Jesse Dean Hermansen, 32, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense; Saw Joy, 34, of Perry, OWI- first offense; Jace Wilson, 16, of Jefferson, harassment- first degree and carrying weapons on school grounds; Michael Scott Richards, 69 of Jefferson, OWI- first offense; Jamie Alan Gumm, 45, of Des Moines, driving while license barred; and Benjamin Jefferey Ellingson, 37, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana, harassment- first degree, and intent to distribute marijuana.
All defendants are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.
