Sheriff’s report – May 2022

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, May 31: At 11:06 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 11:38 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of Grant St in Scranton.

Monday, May 30: At 12:30 am a deputy investigated a driving complaint on Highway 144 near Rippey. Saw Joy, 34, of Perry was arrested for operating while under the influence*.

Sunday, May 29: At 3:36 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an intoxicated female. Fallon Heater, 20, of Jefferson was arrested for disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and possession of alcohol underage*. At 9:07 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 1800 block of 195th St in Hardin Township. A 15-year-old male was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup eastbound on 195th St. Matt Cummings, 35, of Jefferson was pulling out of his driveway and struck pickup truck. Cummings was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Damage to his 2005 Chevy Silverado was estimated at $7,000. Damage to the Dodge was estimated at $10,000.

Saturday, May 28: At 10:19 am a deputy, Jefferson police department, Jefferson fire department, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a tractor-car accident on Highway 30 near Oakland Ave east of Jefferson. The Jefferson PD investigated the accident. At 8:02 pm a deputy and Jefferson fire responded to a brush fire in the 1600 block of County Road P-14 in Jackson Township.

Friday, May 27: At 6:24 pm a deputy arrested Lewis Randolph of Montezuma for a Poweshiek County arrest warrant for violation of a court order*. At 10:23 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near B Ave west of Scranton. Nicole Hanks, 45, of Bayard struck a deer with a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to the vehicle.

Thursday, May 26: At 5:19 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1600 block of Newberry Ave south of Jefferson. Jodi Ganoe, 47, of Jefferson was arrested for possession of marijuana- second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 7:24 am a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 2100 block of 170th St east of Dana. At 1:36 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of Grant St in Scranton. At 3:09 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 237th St and Jordan Ave in Jackson Township. A juvenile struck a deer with a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. Damage to the pickup truck was estimated a $1,500.  At 7:32 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 800 block of High St in Scranton.

Wednesday, May 25: At 3:39 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of Adrian St in Churdan. At 6:06 pm a deputy investigated a no contact order violation in the 500 block of N Ave in Dawson Township.

Tuesday, May 24: At 8:16 am a deputy struck a deer on Highway 30 near 4th St in Grand Junction with a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, causing an estimated $12,000 damage to the vehicle. At 1:55 pm a deputy investigated a no contact order violation in the 500 block of N Ave in Dawson Township. At 8:54 pm a deputy investigated a missing juvenile in the 1100 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 10:20 pm the sheriff, deputies, Grand Junction fire, Paton fire and Greene County Ambulance responded to a reported single vehicle rollover accident. The caller did not know with certainty where the accident was but reported somewhere near 170th St and X Ave east of Dana. Amanda Meyer, 34, of Fort Dodge lost control of her 2014 GMC Acadia, entering the west ditch on X Ave and striking a driveway, deploying both side air bags. Meyer was transported to Greene County Medical Center with possible injuries. Alcohol was detected and blood samples were drawn and sent to the DCI lab. Charges are pending lab results. Meyer was cited for failure to maintain control.

Monday, May 23: At 6:23 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on 237th St near Jordan Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 4:58 pm a deputy investigated a missing child report. The child was located in Jefferson and taken home. At 10:12 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 30 and County Road P-14 west of Jefferson.

Sunday, May 22: At 7:28 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 1000 blk of 150th St in Highland Township. The deputy arrested a juvenile and charged them with assault causing serious injury or mental illness.

Friday, May 20: At 12:20 am a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 1400 block of Highway 144 near Grand Junction. At 9:03 am a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 900 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 1:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. At 4:39 pm deputies assisted the Iowa State Patrol with a high-speed pursuit.  At 5:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of burglary in the 1500 block of T Ave in Grant Township. At 9:17 pm a deputy responded to the 1600 block of Highway 4 south of Jefferson for a car-deer accident. Cynthia Van Horn of Glidden struck a deer with her 2014 Buick Enclave. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $8,000.

Thursday, May 19: At 12:07 pm a deputy responded to the Rippey baseball field for an open 911 line. The deputy searched the area and did not find anything of concern. At 1:58 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey.

Wednesday, May 18: At 6:02 pm a deputy responded to a car-deer accident in the 1600 blk of Highway 4 south of Jefferson. Stacy Lappegard, 45, of Cooper was operating a 2021 Ford F150 pickup truck when she struck a deer. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $15,000. At 6:16 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a driver operating a vehicle on the Raccoon River Valley Trail. The deputy located the vehicle and turned the investigation over to the Greene County Conservation.

Monday, May 16: At 7:41 am a deputy responded to Railroad St and N. 9th St in Grand Junction for a two-vehicle accident. Tanner Brown, 33, of Grand Junction was northbound on 9th St driving a 2000 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado pickup truck. He slowed to turn onto Railroad St. Terri Delp, 44, of Grand Junction was driving a 2018 Buick Encore. She failed to slow and struck Brown’s vehicle. Delp was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance.  At 2:47 pm a deputy transported a subject from the Greene County Medical Center to the courthouse for a court hearing. At 6:36 pm a deputy responded to Lincoln and Jefferson Sts in Scranton for an accident. Unit 1 was a 2012 Buick Enclave operated by a juvenile. Robert Stephenson, 73, of Scranton was driving a 2014 Ford 150 pickup truck. Stephenson was cited for failure to yield the right of way. At 8:09 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with attempting to locate a suspect who was alleged to be shooting at a female. At 8:45 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1000 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, May 15: At 4:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 400 blk of S. 12th St in Grand Junction. At 8:33 pm deputies responded to an active burglary in the 2300 block of County Road E-26 east of Dana. Greene County deputies were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Boone County sheriff’s office, and the Guthrie County sheriff’s office. This case is still under investigation.

Saturday, May 14: At 1:19 am a deputy responded to the 1400 block of 190th St in Hardin Township for a smell of anhydrous. The deputy contacted Landus to handle a possible leaking tank. At 6:32 am a deputy responded to the 1700-1800 blk on Highway 4 for a no passing zone sign on backwards. The deputy verified the sign was on backwards and contacted the DOT. At 5:51 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of Locust St in Scranton.

Friday, May 13: At 9:45 am a deputy responded to the 100 block of 270th St in Scranton Township for cattle out.

Thursday, May 12: At 5:12 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an accident in the 1300 block of Highway 30. At 6:02 pm a deputy responded to the 1000 block of Railroad St East in Grand Junction. At 7:35 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson fire department with traffic control in the 1100 block of N. Maple St in Jefferson.

Wednesday, May 11: At 7:35 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 400 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 8:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of neglected dogs in the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 11:38 am a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with locating a vehicle in the 700 block of Oak St in Scranton after the driver did not pay for gasoline. At 12:53 pm the sheriff ‘s office conducted a search warrant 1108 Lincoln St in Scranton and seized two malnourished dogs and took them to a veterinary clinic for care. An investigation into animal neglect is ongoing. At 3:18 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment at the courthouse. At 7:46 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 700 block of Dudley Ave in Churdan.

Tuesday, May 10: At 12:20 am the Greene County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of S. Wilson Ave. The weapon used in the earlier assault at Henderson Park was seized along with other evidence related to the case. Michael Teeples, 28, of Jefferson was later arrested for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, intimidation with a dangerous weapon to injure or provoke, false imprisonment, reckless use of a firearm, and prostitution*.

Monday, May 9: At 6:24 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 170th St near T Ave in Junction Township. The driver had left the scene. At 7:45 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 900 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 7:48 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment and assault complaint at Henderson Park.

Saturday, May 7: At 9:36 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident at E. Main and 17th St in Grand Junction. A juvenile who was learning to drive hit two mailboxes with a 2007 Chrysler 300, causing an estimated $1,100 damage to the vehicle and $250 damage to two mailboxes. At 4:13 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a grass fire in the 700 block of O Ave in Harden Township.

Friday, May 6: At 7:07 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Rippey At 2:29 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 4:25 pm a deputy investigated a reported car in the ditch in the 1700 block of Highway 30 east of Jefferson. At 6:08 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 100 block of 210th St in Kendrick Township. At 8:15 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on M Avenue and 245th St in Jackson Township. Jodi Fredrick, 46, of Jefferson drove off the intersection at the end of M Ave. Frederick was cited for failure to reduce speed to a reasonable and proper rate, striking fixtures upon a highway, and fail to obey stop sign. Damage to her 2016 Jeep Wrangler exceeded value.

Thursday, May 5: At 8:08 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on Highway 4 and 330th St in Franklin Township. At 10:50 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 1300 block of Pioneer Ave in Grant Township. At 4:21 pm a deputy assisted with a lost cat in the 100 block of W. Paton St in Paton.

Wednesday, May 4: At 12:03 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Scranton. At 11:35 pm the sheriff and a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with pursuit in Jefferson.

Tuesday, May 3: At 3:39 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 600 block of Brentwood Ave in Cedar Township. Chanze Bushman, 21, of Scranton was arrested for domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness*. At 5:48 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of suspicious activity at Seven Hills Park in Jackson Township.

Monday, May 2: At 7:56 am a deputy conducted a welfare check in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. Melissa Dopheide, 40, of Scranton was arrested on a Sac County warrant for arson- first degree*.

Sunday, May 1: At 2:31 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson Police Department with an arrest. At 10:41 am a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal drug use in the 500 block of N Ave in Dawson Township. At 5:23 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1000 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 7:09 pm a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Jefferson fire department responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on 250th Street near Highway 4 in Grant Township. Kyle Thomas, 68, of Boone was passing a truck on 250th St and lost control of his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, rolling it into the south ditch. Thomas was arrested for operating while intoxicated*. Damage to his vehicle exceeded value. At 7:26 pm a deputy investigated and found controlled substances in the 500 block of South 11th St in Grand Junction.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
