The Greenbrier 4-H club met Monday, May 9, at 7 pm in Clover Hall at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Bailey Anderson called the meeting to order.
Cody Stephenson reported that the Greene County Young Leaders assisted with the April Clover Kids Day consisting of spring activities. The next Clover Kids Day will be the Livestock/Petstock Day, June 25. Clover Kids may bring their animals to the fairgrounds to learn more about the process of showing them at the fair.
Senior 4-H’ers were reminded of the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference in Ames June 28-30. This is held on the Iowa State University campus and has many speakers and workshops as well as a banquet and dance. The 4-H Foundation pays 70 percent of the registration fee.
June 15 is the deadline for livestock fair entry sheets which includes paying stall fees. Clover Kids fair entries are also due then.
Required rabbit, poultry, horse, beef, sheep/goat, swine, and dog meetings to be eligible to show at the fair are outlined in the 4-H newsletter.
Home State Bank is providing each 4-H’er a T-shirt to show in at the fair. The Greenbrier T-shirts will be available at the June meeting for $7.
A 4-H photography workshop will be held Thursday, May 26, from 5 to 7 pm at the Greene County Extension Office. Youth will learn the basics of photography and walk around the square capturing images and finish at the Extension office by completing paperwork for the fair. Bring your own camera or phone.
Ideas were discussed for decorating for this year’s fair theme of “Building the Future.”
Presentations were given by Kaleah Messer on track events, Adya Messer on the Right Stones of Healing, and Dakota Ostrander on the parts of a sheep. Refreshments were served by Messers and Dakota.
The next Greenbrier meeting will be Monday, June 13, at 7 pm in Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds.
