Ram boys track & field places sixth at NP, third in conference meet

The Greene County boys track team finished their last regular season week of action last week, taking sixth in a shortened meet on Tuesday, and third in their conference meet on Thursday.

The state qualifying meet is Thursday, May 12, at Treynor. The top finishers will advance to the state meet to be held at Drake Stadium on May 19-21. 

“I’m proud of our kids’ efforts. There were many prs and great efforts by many kids,” praised coach Chad Morton. 

The May 3 meet at North Polk High School was cut short due to inclement weather. The Rams were sitting in sixth with the events that were completed. Jesse Miller secured a second place finish in discus at the meet.

Shot put – Broc Hannan, 37’ 11.5”, ninth; Logan Higgins, 31’ 8”, 20th; Jace Wilson, 30’ 11”, 22nd.

High jump – Lane Fields, 5’ 6”, fifth; Matthew Hovick, 5’ 4”, seventh.

800 sprint medley relay – Camden Jacobs, Bryce Habben, Dante Crotzer, Kendall Freeman, 1:55.00, seventh.

On Thursday, the Rams took third at the Heart of Iowa Conference meet at Roland-Story High School. First place finishes came from Jackson Morton in the 400 meter hurdles and the 440 meter shuttle hurdle relay team.

Long jump – Bryce Stalder, 20’ 2”, second; Camden Strennen, 16’ 6.75”, eighth. 

110 meter hurdles – Jackson Morton, 15.11, second; Nathan Black, 17.34, sixth.
