The Jefferson public library will present local author Rosemarie Olhausen discussing her new book, “Still the One: More Life with Roger”, Saturday, May 14, at 10 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson.
This is Olhausen’s second book, a follow-up to “My Life with Roger: Celebrating Forty-Plus Years of Laughter, Travel and Sports”, published in 2011. Olhausen’s book is an ode to the touching, often humorous life she shares with her husband, the family they raised and the tales he tells of his youth. From the early years in their marriage to retirement, these stories of a Midwestern family will resonate with readers everywhere.
Both Roger and Rose grew up in Iowa, he in Hartley, and she on a farm between Minburn and Dallas Center. Rose retired after more than 35 years of teaching health and family and consumer sciences in the Jefferson, now Greene County, school district. Roger also was a long-time middle school math teacher in Jefferson.
In her retirement, Rose decided to write down some of their family stories for their children and grandchildren. She found that she really enjoyed writing. In her spare time she can be found reading, quilting and cooking. The Olhausens live in Jefferson, and together enjoy doing volunteer work, traveling and spending time with their two adult children and five grandkids.
“Rose is a very good storyteller and Roger has given her a lot of material to write about over their many years together, and also from his childhood. Come and enjoy listening to her heartwarming and familiar stories. It will seem like gathering around the family room to get more acquainted with the Olhausen family,” said library director Jane Millard.
This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
“Still the One” is published by Raspberry Ridge Publishing in Jefferson, which is owned by Janice Harbaugh. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the program and Olhausen will gladly autograph them. Copies are also available to check out at the Jefferson public library and can be purchased locally at The Printer’s Box or at Amazon.com.
