The Rotary Club of Jefferson has changed the time of its centennial celebration.
The come-and-go event will celebrate 100 years of “Service Above Self” and positive impact on the community Sunday, May 15, from 5 to 7 pm at the Rotary Room at Jefferson Community Golf Course. The public is cordially invited to attend.
A program at 5:30 pm will highlight some of the projects and organizations that have shared in the more than $650,000 the Rotary Club has generated for the benefit of youth, education, community development, health, and other projects throughout Greene County and the world.
The club was organized in March 1922 and received its charter May 24, 1922. Although membership has changed in the past 100 years and now includes women and those whose careers are not in business, the original intent of Rotary has not changed. An article in the Jefferson Bee on March 22, 1922, explained the club’s purpose “is to boost for and be of service to the community.”
