The Greene County Community School board of education met in closed session Wednesday evening and selected two finalists for the superintendent vacancy.
Candidates are
–Brett Abbotts, who is currently an elementary principal in the Council Bluffs Community School District. Previously, he was an assistant principal/activities director at AHSTW (Avoca) and a teacher in the Southeast Polk Community School in Altoona.
–Mike Van Sickle, who is currently superintendent of Louisa-Muscatine Community School District in Letts. Prior to that, he was a principal in Ogden, Perry-Lecompton Schools in Perry, KS, and Hutchison, KS. He started his teaching career in Pinckey, KS.
Interviews are scheduled March 29-30. Numerous stakeholder groups will have the opportunity to meet the final candidates and submit input to the board about each of them. The board intends to make their selection by April 1, 2022.
Greene County Community School District retained the services of McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C. to assist in conducting their search. The consultants reviewed, screened, and conducted extensive background checks on 23 applicants. On Wednesday, March 23, the consultants presented the applicants to the board of education and provided them detailed background information on each applicant. The board selected two candidates as finalists.
