The Greenbrier 4-H club met Monday, Feb. 14, at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. Ilsa Hooper called the meeting to order and reminded members of the need to do the YQCA animal training in order to show animals at the fair. 

Reminders also were given for the Community Lamb Barn project and the days to pick up tags for the hogs to be shown at the fair. Those are April 13 or May 5 from 9 am to 6 pm.

4-H members decided to donate $3 per member to the 4-Hers for 4-H campaign. This money goes to help state 4-H events like camps and conference. 

Bailey Anderson gave a presentation on the history of bicycles and Becca Anderson told about and demonstrated the use of a Chinese yo-yo. Sadie Gilbertson, Autumn and Sedona Stevens led a geometry workshop on making shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows.

Refreshments were served by Sadie Gilbertson, the Andersons, and the Stevens.

The Greenbrier 4-H meeting was held March 14 at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. The meeting was called to order by Bailey Anderson. She reminded members of YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Animals) which is a yearly online training for youth to get certified at home to show animals at the fair. The cost is $12 per year and when completed a copy of the certificate of completion must be emailed to the Extension office to be put on file.

Again, this year there will be no swine weigh in. Ear tags will be picked up at the Extension Office on April 13 or May 5 (9 am- 6 pm) Swine exhibitors must complete one educational workshop which is outlined in the Greene County newsletter. There will also be no rate of gain contest for 2022, and families will need to find a place for their pigs to go after the fair. Swine families are also responsible for administering both doses of the erysipelas vaccine to their pigs.

2022 Community Lamb Barn contracts were handed out. Application deadline is April 15. The Iowa 4-H Youth Conference in Ames was highlighted. This will be held in Ames June 28 – 30. Members were reminded that the 4-H Foundation pays for 75 percent of the registration fee. The Animal Science Roundup will be held at the same time and applications are due April 15.

A workshop for the $15 challenge will be held Monday, April 15, at ShineOn Design in Jefferson. At that time Jen Badger will conduct a tour of the facilities there and help 4-H members pick out clothes that cost $15 or less to show as a project and model at the fair. Register at the Greene County Extension Office by April 15.

4-Hers learned of Camp Wild, a summer camp for grades 5, 6 and 7 that will be held at Guthrie Grove Retreat Center in Guthrie Center. The dates are June 5-7 and registration opens soon.

Eli Hardaway led a recreation mixer using a deck of playing cards.

Presentations were by Grace Hardaway who told about the effects the color yellow has on humans, and Eli Hardaway on famous train crashes. Cody Taggart showed the group how to make paper airplanes, and Shailynne Woodley explained the art of training a dog for pheasant hunting.

The next Greenbrier meeting will be Monday, April 11 at Clover Hall.
