The Greene County track and field teams closed out the indoor portion of their 2022 season at the Buena Vista High School Indoor Elite meet at Storm Lake Saturday.
On the boys side, the Rams had two second place finishes. Jackson Morton was second in the high hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds. The 4 X 400m relay team of Camden Strennen, Richard Daugherty, Jesse Miller and Morton placed second in 3:43.59.
The 4 X 200m relay team of Strennen, Nathan Black, Morton and Daugherty placed fourth and set an indoor school record with a time of 1:39.51. Jose Velazco placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18’ 3-3/4”, while Daugherty took fifth at 18’ 3-1/4”. The distance medley relay team of Velazco, Miller, Ethan Larsen and Noah Hinote placed sixth in 4:12.06.
Seventh place finishes came from the 4 X 800m relay team of Gavin Winters, Gavin Bellinghausen, Dante Crotzer and Crew Conner, and in the 1600m run from Logan Woodruff with a time of 5:28.09. Jayden C? placed eighth in the 1600m run in 5:28.19. Aiden Winters took ninth place in the 800m run in 2:68.64.
“We had over 40 athletes compete this indoor season, more than Greene County track has ever had during the indoor season,” said coach Chad Morton. “I’m very proud of everyone’s efforts.”
The Ram girls also competed at BVU. Katrina Heupel placed third in the 400m dash with a time of 1:06.14, and Payton Kokenge placed third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’ 00”.
Olivia Shannon was fourth in the 60m dash in 8.52 seconds. Shannon and Gretah Kersey, Hailey Carman and Heupel placed fourth in the distance medley with a time of 4:57.02.
Emma Hoyle was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 30’01”. Ashlynn Hinners was eighth in that event with a toss of 27’11”.
Shannon was seventh in the long jump at 14’ 9-1/4”. Carman was seventh in the 800m run in 3:08.66.
The outdoor season starts March 28 with the Early Bird meet at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
