Police blotter – February 2022

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Monday, Feb. 28: At 4:23 pm Wild Rose Casino security staff requested officers at for two subjects possibly using false IDs. The officer could not determine if the IDs were false. The subjects were not allowed entrance to the facility and the follow up on the IDs will be handled by the DCI agents at the facility. *****Lab results are back on items seized during a consent search at 304 N. Vine St on 01/13. The officer has requested arrest warrants for Morgan Brooke Hughes-Hernandez, 23, of Jefferson for possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia*. ***** Lab results are back on items seized during a consent search of a vehicle at 704 Sunset Rd. The officer has requested arrest warrants for Candi Renee Lamberti, 38, of Des Moines for possession of methamphetamine (serious misdemeanor) , unlawful possession of prescription drug (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*.  

Sunday, Feb. 27: At 12:20 am deputies were out of position and requested an officer to respond to a rollover accident at 240th St near Orion Ave east of Jefferson. The subject advised he had been ejected from the vehicle. The officer arrived and located the subject and assisted the Greene County Ambulance in transport. The sheriff’s office is doing the investigation into the matter. At 8:27 am a resident reported a water main break near S. Cedar and W. Russell Sts. The city public works department was advised of the break.

Saturday, Feb. 26: Routine activity reported.

Friday, Feb. 25: At 8:01 am a complainant advised of several drivers sliding corners at the Greene County High School The officer did not locate the vehicles in the area. At 10:34 am a complainant reported a driving complaint which occurred at W. Lincoln Way and Chestnut St. The officer is investigating.

Thursday, Feb. 24: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, Feb. 23: At 8:53 am court staff advised a wanted male was in court. Officers arrested Brandon Lee Ferguson, 23, of Perry on outstanding Jefferson PD arrest warrants for identity theft, driving while license barred, and possession of methamphetamine*. At 11:09 Aureon employees advised the company had received a bomb threat online. The building was evacuated. The officer soon learned the threat was made to the parent company about all Aureon locations in America. Nothing suspicious was located inside the building. At 6:04 pm an officer investigated a report of a possible violation of no contact order in Jefferson.

Tuesday, Feb. 22: At 10:13 am staff at Casey’s General Store turned in suspected drug paraphernalia dropped by a customer. The officer is investigating.

Monday, Feb. 21: At 10:49 am staff at Greene County Medical Center requested an officer for a suspicious male in the parking lot. Persons entering the facility advised the male was in an old police car and was stopping people as they walked into the building. The male was advising he was a police officer and taking photos. The subject had left the area before the officer arrived; the vehicle was not located. *****An officer completed an investigation of disorderly conduct that began on 2/11 at Greene County Community Center. The officer has sent juvenile charges for disorderly conduct for two females, one 14 years old and the other 15 years old.

Wednesday, Feb. 16: Routine activity reported.

Tuesday, Feb. 15: At 12:44 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 100 block of N. Walnut St to report trespassing upon her property. The complainant advised that someone had entered her garage and gone through items inside. She believed it to be a neighbor. During the interaction with the complainant, the officer kept detecting the strong pungent odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence. The officer spoke to a couple who also live in the residence and was granted permission to search from all parties. During the consent search, several items of paraphernalia, baggies, scales, and marijuana were seized. Charges for the narcotic items are pending lab results. The officer is still investigating the trespass complaint.

Monday, Feb. 14: At 5:29 am an officer responded to a car-deer collision on Highway 30, near Oakland Ave east of Jefferson. Faith Wood of Ames was westbound driving her 2007 Toyota Yaris, when a deer entered the roadway. The vehicle collided with the deer, resulting in front end damage to the vehicle estimated at $5,000.

Sunday, Feb. 13: At 12:28 a complainant reported a suspicious activity involving two vehicles in the 500 block of E. Clark St. The officer later made a traffic stop with one of the reported vehicles in the 200 block of W. Head St. Shelby Marie McBride of Saint Paul, MN, was cited for failure to carry registration card, fail to provide proof of financial liability, and driving while revoked. Two vehicles were towed and placed in impound.

Saturday, Feb. 12: At 1:50 pm a complainant reported an opossum with its head caught in a jar at a residence in the 1200 block of W. Lincoln Way. The officer located the animal, which was deceased. The officer removed the animal and disposed of it. At 2:39 a complainant reported that two female juveniles had been involved in a fight at Greene County Community Center on 2/11. He provided video of the event. The officer is investigating. At 5:16 pm a complaint requested an officer at a residence in the 600 block of S. Maple St as his wife had assaulted him. The officer’s investigated led to the arrest of Karyn Melissa Parker, 37, of Jefferson for domestic abuse assault- first offense (simple misdemeanor)*.

Friday, Feb. 11: Routine activity reported.

Thursday, Feb. 10: At 12:27 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief to the tires on her vehicle while it was parked overnight in the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way. Two tires had been slashed. The officer estimated damage at $300. There are no suspects at this time.

Wednesday, Feb. 9: At 7:09 am a complainant reported a known female was threatening her as she drove to work. The complainant did not give her location and ended the call. The officer could not reach her back. At 9:28 am an officer investigated an accident at N. Vine and W. Clark Sts. Michael Berg of Anita was eastbound on Clark St driving a 2017 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck owned by New Opportunities of Carroll. Denise Lehman of Jefferson was northbound on Vine St driving her 2002 Jeep Liberty. The vehicles collided in the uncontrolled intersection. Lehman was cited for fail to yield to vehicle on right. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $5,000. Damage to New Opportunities’ truck was estimated at $2,000. At 2:32 pm the complainant from the 7:09 am call reported she had been assaulted in the 100 block of N. Oak St. The officer is investigating. *****An officer has completed the investigation initiated 2/01 of a sex assault. As a result, Richard Dean Tuhn Jr, 43, of Jefferson has been charged with sex abuse- third degree (C felony)*. *****The Jefferson police department does not release detailed investigative information to the press or public. Furthermore, The Jefferson PD cannot control what local media believes to be appropriate facts, gathered from public records, to print or share with the community.

Tuesday, Feb. 8: At 1:55 pm security staff at Wild Rose Casino requested an officer for a subject on the gaming floor who had signed a self-exclusion form in 2009. The officer issued Todd Wingert of Fonda a summons to appear for trespass (simple misdemeanor)*. At 6:15 pm officers investigated a hit-and-run accident at the Redwood Motel. A 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck owned by Miller Insulation of North Dakota was struck on the passenger side; damage was estimated at $2,000. The officers are looking for the driver involved.

Monday, Feb. 7: At 3:29 pm a resident reported he had received a ransom ware email. He opened an email and his computer went dark. He was later contacted and advised to get $8,420 in gift cards to get his computer back to normal. He did not send the ransom and was instructed to contact his bank and pay close attention to all his accounts. Remember that these crimes are not able to be investigated, so be careful what you open in your inboxes. At 4:36 pm a complainant reported her daughter’s vehicle had been hit while parked at Greene County High School. The daughter left the scene and went home. The other driver had placed a note on the vehicle advising of the accident and providing their information. An accident report could not be done, as both vehicles had left the scene.

Sunday, Feb. 6: At 6:29 pm an officer was requested to remove possible narcotic related items from the garage in the 300 block of E. Vest St.

 Saturday, Feb. 5: At 10:30 am an officer assisted a conservation officer and a deputy with a consent search at 855 240th St in Jackson Township. Nothing illegal was located in the search. At 2:42 pm an officer conducted a consent search at 912 W. Mahlon St in connection to a felon in possession of a firearm investigation. Four guns were located and seized from the property.

Friday, Feb. 4: At 11:02 am a caller advised of a dead cat in the roadway in the 800 block of W. Lincoln Way. The officer disposed of the deceased animal.

Thursday, Feb. 3: At 12:30 am an officer assisted the Jefferson fire department with a vehicle fire in the 400 block of N. Grimmell Rd. The vehicle suffered wiring damage in the area of the dash. At 10:59 am officers and deputies arrested Richard Dean Tuhn, 43, of Jefferson on outstanding warrants for dominion/control of firearm by felony, theft- fourth degree, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia*. During the arrest officers located marijuana on Tuhn’s person at the jail. The officer charged Tuhn with possession of marijuana*.

Wednesday, Feb. 2: At 3:37 am officers began an investigation of a sex assault that had occurred in Jefferson. At 3:06 pm staff at Greene County High School requested an officer after locating a student with alcohol. The officer is investigating. *****An officer has requested an arrest warrant for William Wesley Bingle, 55, of Jefferson on a charge of theft- fifth degree. The charge stems from a shoplifting event at HyVee on 1/29.

Tuesday, Feb. 1: At 10:41 am the Jefferson police department was assisted at 302 E. Vest St by the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol with the execution of two search warrants in Jefferson and Grand Junction. The search warrants were in connection to an investigation into a felon in possession of a firearm. Officers seized ammunition from the Vest St residence. The sheriff’s office simultaneously executed the second search warrant at 201-1/2 E. Main St in Grand Junction. Nothing was seized from this address. During the search warrant, officers were advised that the subject from Vest St had forced a vehicle to stop and was blocking the subjects from leaving on S Ave, near the railroad crossing. Officers and deputies headed to the scene. Jefferson officers spotted the suspect vehicle travelling west on County Road E-53 toward Jefferson and performed a traffic stop on the “S” curves east of Jefferson. The officers arrested Richard Dean Tuhn, 43, of Jefferson and charged him with dominion/control of a firearm by domestic offender (D felony)*. The vehicle was towed to Impound and was covered by the search warrant. During the execution of the search of the truck, more ammunition was located.

*All charges are merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
