Petersen, Robbins, Scheuermann On To State!

The Greene County wrestling team will have three wrestlers at the Class 2A state competition in Des Moines on Feb. 17-19.
The Rams competed in the district tournament in Glenwood Saturday. The top two finishers in each class move on to the state tournament. Advancing to state competition from Greene County are Kale Petersen, who placed first in the 120 pound weight class; McKinley Robbins, who placed first at 132; and Gavin Scheuermann, who took first at 152.
Finishing their season at districts were Brenner Gallagher who finished in fourth place at 138, Nathan Black who took third at 160, and Noble Hoyt who finished in fourth place at 182 pounds.
As a team, Greene County finished in fifth at the district competition out of 12 teams at the meet.
-120 – Kale Petersen won by fall over Cruz Weaver 1:36; won by technical fall over Cael Nelson 20-5, first place
-132 – McKinley Robbins won by fall over Trey Chesnut 3:44; won by major decision over Easton O’Brien 12-4, first place
-138 – Brenner Gallagher lost by decision to Austin Evans 8-4; lost by decision to Dante Hedrington 6-5, fourth place
-152 – Gavin Scheuermann won by decision over Briley Hayes 9-2; won by decision over Brian South 6-1, first place
-160 – Nathan Black won by fall over William Bolinger 0:56; lost by technical fall to Dawson Bond 16-0; lost by fall to Karson Downey 3:05, third place
-182 – Noble Hoyt lost by fall to Jarrett Armstrong 3:26; lost by fall to Jase Wilmes 1:05, fourth place.
Team scores: Atlantic 124; Carroll 77; Clarinda 72; Creston 69; Greene County 65.5; Glenwood 64.5; Harlan 37; Central Decatur 20; Red Oak 19.5; Clarke, Osceola/Murray 14; Southwest Iowa (Sidney) 12.
State tournament schedule – Petersen, Robbins and Scheuermann will open competition at the state tournament Thursday, Feb. 17, at 9 am. Winners advance to the second round on Friday at 9 am. Wrestling continues all day Friday and Saturday. State championship matches begin Saturday night at 6 pm.
Petersen and Robbins are defending state champions from 2021 and are considered top seeds.
-Petersen, 9-0, junior, opens the first round of action against Kole Johnson, freshman, 24-10 from Creston.
-Robbins, junior, 42-3, begins his quest against Caden Kerr, junior, 10-5, NFV.
-Scheuermann, sophomore, 40-6, will face Cole Butikofer, junior, 35-4, Creston.
