The Greene County boys basketball team added two wins to their season total last week.
On Tuesday, Dec. 7, the team traveled to South Hamilton High School in Jewell to take on the Hawks. The Rams were up 43-20 at halftime after scoring 22 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second. The second half of the game sealed the deal for the Rams, taking the win 71-43.
Richard Daugherty was responsible for 24 points on the Ram’s side, making seven of 11 field goals, four of six three-point shots and all six of his free throw attempts. Bryce Stalder scored 11 points while Jackson Morton and Jesse Miller scored 10 each. Stalder had eight rebounds to control the boards.
Friday was a home game against PCM where the Rams notched the win column again. The Rams only had a four point lead after the first quarter, but increased their lead to 10 points by halftime, heading into the second half 33-23. The Rams held their lead through the third and fourth quarters, winning the game 71-58.
“We had a very productive week where we saw much better shooting and a main reason for that was our defense was much better. We were locked in and had more of a focus on taking care of that end,” said coach Chris Nelson. “Our defense led us to get some easy buckets early and helped us relax more on offense which helped us shoot better.
“It was great team basketball in both games and saw many positives from lots of guys. Friday’s game I really felt our bench was great and played with intense energy,” added Nelson. “Our starting five played very well on both ends. It is great to get two wins on the week and we are focused on staying consistent in doing the small things and look to build on this momentum.”
As a team, 28 of 59 field goal attempts were successful and six of 19 three-pointers made it in the basket. Miller led in both points and rebounds with 17 and 12 respectively. Daugherty added 16 points followed by Stalder with 15. Also scoring were Caden Telleen and Brayden Roberts, seven; Blake Hamann, four; Jackson Morton, three, and Gabe Ebersole, two. Other stats were not available due to film malfunction.
The Ram boys are at 2-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 2-2 overall.
