The Rams girls basketball faced two losses last week. The first was to South Hamilton on Dec. 7 in Jewell, followed by a defeat by PCM Dec. 10 in Jefferson.
In the Tuesday game, the Hawks ended the first quarter ahead of the Rams, 16-3, and never looked back. The Rams were unable to score more than seven points in any quarter, allowing the Hawks to take the lead. The game ended 55-18.
Emma Hoyle was the point leader for the Rams in the game, adding seven to the scoreboard. Brianna Habben and Regan Tuhn were each responsible for three points. The Rams made six of 36 field goals and two of 13 three-point shots.
“We are improving on our defense greatly. Emma Hoyle really stepped up for us on the offensive end. She doesn’t back down from anyone, and really gets the rest of them going,” said coach Tori Ogden.
Friday brought a home game for the Rams, where they took on the PCM Mustangs. Another low-scoring game for Greene County brought another loss. Scoring nine points in the first half of the game and 13 in the second half, the girls lost 48-22 to the Mustangs.
Habben was the only Ram to score more than 10 points in the night, taking responsibility for 14 of the 22 points scored. She also led in rebounds as she grabbed 11 boards during the game.
“This is the best game we have played yet. We had really good defense and our offense is starting to move better each day. Bri Habben really stepped up offensively and had a great rebounding game as well,” commented the coach.
The loss put the team’s season record at 0-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 1-3 overall.
Both Ram teams played Dec. 14 at home against West Marshall. Upcoming games are Friday at Perry High School and Saturday at home with Kuemper Catholic.
