The second annual Winter Festival: Celebration of Trees is Friday, Dec. 10, from 5 to 9 pm, and Saturday, Dec. 11, from 9 am to 7 pm at the Elks lodge, 103 W. Harrison St, in Jefferson.
Although there is no admission fee, attendees are encouraged to contribute to a free will donation to help cover the cost of the event, which is sponsored by Jefferson Matters: A Main Street & Chamber Community.
The Elks lodge will be filled with trees submitted by businesses, organizations, and individuals. Live holiday piano music, treats (some free and some for purchase), and children’s activities will be offered on both days. Visitors will be given a “ballot” to vote for their favorite tree. For extra fun, an “elf” will be randomly gifting adults with Chamber Bucks.
Also, on Friday from 5 to 9, there will be horse drawn carriage rides starting from the parking lot across the street from the Elks lodge and going around the downtown square. Santa Claus is also “coming to town” on Friday from 5 to 7 and on Saturday from 2 to 4. Children will have the opportunity to participate in an “eye spy” game and upon completion they can put their name in a drawing for one of many toys, all purchased locally.
The upstairs of the Elks lodge will be transformed into a children’s workshop of crafts and Santa letter writing.
It is not too late to submit a tree for display. Persons who want more information can call 515-386-2155.
