In Greene County district court Sharlee Jean Royce, 31, of Grinnell was sentenced Nov. 22 to 10 years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of criminal mischief- first degree. She was fined $1,370 with a $205.50 surcharge. On a charge of theft- second degree she was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. On a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense she was also sentenced to five years in prison and fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. The prison terms are concurrent; the fines and surcharges on those counts were suspended. Royce was sentenced to 365 days in jail on a charge of trespass causing injury or damage more than $300. The jail term is concurrent to the prison terms. She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were not suspended. Cristian Remberto Paniagua, 26, of Jefferson was sentenced Nov. 22 to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Paniagua was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. Cain James Andersen, 21, of Templeton was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but five days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year to Boone/Greene County Probation. He was sentenced to two days in jail on a charge of possession of marijuana, with the jail time consecutive. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College alcohol education program in lieu of two days of the jail time. If he chooses to serve all seven days in jail, he must complete a 12-hour impaired drivers education course. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Andersen was fined $1,250 with a $187.5 surcharge on the OWI charge. He must pay $576.25 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of possessing or carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence was dismissed. Robert Michael Guzman Jr, 26, of Carter Lake pleaded not guilty Nov. 22 to a charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. A trial date was set for Jan. 25.
