Sheriff’s report – November 2021

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, Nov. 30: At 12:09 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 400 block of Harding St in Churdan. At 1:19 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 1500 block of 310th St in Franklin Township. At 4:38 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 and B Ave west of Scranton. Ashley Richardson, 31, of West Des Moines struck a deer with a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to the vehicle.

Monday, Nov. 29: Routine activity reported.

Sunday, Nov. 28: At 1:55 pm a deputy investigated a cat bite that happened in the 2000 block of 190th St in Junction Township. At 9:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of School St in Churdan.

Saturday, Nov. 27: At 9:27 am a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with locating a Jefferson resident wanted for whom there was a Carroll County arrest warrant. The person was located and arrested in Scranton and taken to the Carroll County jail. At 10:31 pm a deputy arrested Danyell Freeman, 45, of Fort Dodge for driving while barred* at Highways 30 and 4.

Friday, Nov. 26: Routine activity reported.

Thursday, Nov. 25: At 12:31 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident in the 900 block of 180th Street in Bristol Township. Katie Fitzpatrick, 39, of Carroll lost control of a 2006 Mercury Montego and rolled in the ditch. Fitzpatrick was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by the Greene County Ambulance with minor injuries. Damage to the vehicle exceeded value.

Wednesday, Nov. 24: At 8:38 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Kirkwood Avenue near County Road E-57 (235th St) west of Jefferson. At 3:11 pm a deputy and the Grand Junction fire department responded to a gas leak in the 1000 block of Sandoe St in Grand Junction. At 6:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 100 block of E. Elizabeth St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, Nov. 23: At 7:52 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway in the 1200 block of Orchard Ave in Hardin Township. At 1:06 pm the sheriff and deputies responded to a domestic assault in Rippey. At 1:33 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 400 block of E Ave in Cedar Township.

Monday, Nov. 22: At :19 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1800 block of County Road E-18 in Paton. 130th Street, Paton.

Sunday, Nov. 21: At 6:18 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle rollover accident on County Road N-58 (A Ave) and County Road E-53 (250th St). Matthew Scott, 35, of Boone swerved to miss a deer and rolled a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, totaling the vehicle.

Saturday, Nov. 20: At 1:56 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on S Ave near 295th St in Franklin Township. Kimberly Smith, 65, of Jamaica struck a deer with a 2012 Chrysler Town and County minivan causing an estimated $14,000 damage to the vehicle. At 2:45 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on U Ave near 330th St in Washington Township. At 7:06 pm a deputy issued a salvage tag for a deer on Highway 30 near Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson. At 10:04 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near K Ave west of Jefferson. Ted Semke, 43, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck, causing an estimated $1,500 damage to the vehicle.

Friday, Nov. 19: At 12:02 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 1000 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 2:32 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1000 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 2:11 pm a deputy investigated an alleged abuse in the 500 block of Elizabeth St in Grand Junction. At 2:42 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of forgery in the 100 block of N. Chestnut St in Jefferson. At 2:48 pm a deputy investigated a cat bite at the Greene County Medical Center.

Thursday, Nov. 18: At 5:30 am the sheriff and a deputy arrested Kage Gordon, 25, of Howell, NJ, on warrants for child endangerment causing serious injury, conspiracy to commit a forcible felony (two counts), conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, and conspiracy to commit an aggravated misdemeanor*. At 6:55 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1100 block of M Ave in Bristol Township. At 7:58 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of 180th St in Bristol Township. At 6:13 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1100 block of State St in Scranton.

Wednesday, Nov. 17: At 7:00 am a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Grand Junction fire responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 144 just north of Highway 30 at Grand Junction. A juvenile with a learning permit was learning to drive and dropped a steering tire off on the shoulder and over corrected. The 2002 Jeep Wrangler rolled into the west ditch. There were two passengers in the vehicle, but injuries were minor and no one was transported. Damage to the vehicle exceeded value.  

Tuesday, Nov. 16: At 9:48 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on Highway 30 and Kirkwood Ave west of Jefferson. At 2:25 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of N. Wise St in Paton. At 7:26 pm a deputy conducted tobacco compliance checks around the county; all businesses were compliant. At 7:26 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road E-53 (235th St) near Parkland Ave east of Jefferson. Neal Peterson, 75, of Perry struck a deer with a 2004 Saturn Vue, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to the vehicle.

Monday, Nov. 15: At 7 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on Kirkwood Ave near 230th St west of Jefferson.

Sunday, Nov. 14: At 11:21 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road P-29 (N Ave) near 110th St in Dawson Township. Kodi Brown, 29, of Denison was driving a 2017 Ford Focus and struck a deer, causing an estimated $8,000 damage to the vehicle.

Saturday, Nov. 13: At 10:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 900 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Bristol Township. At 2:56 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Alyssa Sudbeck, 30, of Maxwell struck a deer with a 2014 GMC Terrain causing an estimated $3,000 damage to the vehicle.

Thursday, Nov. 11: At 3:02 pm a deputy assisted with horses out in the 1600 block of Highway 4 south of Jefferson. At 5:36 pm a deputy investigated a hit and run accident in the 300 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Nov. 10: At 7:45 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road E-53 (235th St) near Kirkwood Ave west of Jefferson. A juvenile struck a deer with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, causing an estimated $2,000 damage to the vehicle. At 9:18 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1500 block of P Ave in Grant Township. At 7:05 pm a deputy arrested Daniel Newton, 31, of Grand Junction on an arrest warrant for a probation violation*.

Tuesday, Nov. 9: At 12:41 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near County Road E-19 (140th St) in Cedar Township. Jerry Hall, 75, of Scranton struck a deer with a 2006 Dodge Ram truck causing an estimated $3,000 damage to the truck. At 4:13 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 200 block of 7th St in Grand Junction. At 4:56 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 300th St near Highway 4 in Franklin Township. At 6:07 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 237th Street near Kirkwood Ave in Greenbrier Township. Caden Etherton, 18, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2008 Dodge Avenger, causing an estimated $500 damage to the vehicle.

Monday, Nov. 8: At 3:31 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on P Avenue near 255th St in Grant Township. At 6:14 pm a deputy issued a salvage tag for deer on 195th St and E Ave in Kendrick Township.

Sunday, Nov. 7: At 4:22 pm a deputy and the Paton fire department responded to a field fire on X Ave near 110th St in Paton Township.

Friday, Nov. 5: At 1:04 pm a deputy assisted with a cow out in the 1900 block of Highway 4 south of Jefferson. At 4:57 pm a deputy arrested Nicholas Weber, 21, of Fort Dodge for a probation violation*.

Thursday, Nov. 4: At 5:43 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 2200 block of County Road N-58 (A Ave) in Willow Township. The driver had left the scene. At 12:27 pm a deputy assisted with horses out in the 600 block of County Road N-65 (D Ave) in Cedar Township. At 1:58 pm a deputy investigated a report of a stolen vehicle in the 400 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 6:34 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 300 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 7:10 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a two-vehicle accident on Highway 30 and Mulberry Ave.

Wednesday, Nov. 3: At 10:14 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a barking dog in the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 3:23 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of Walnut St in Scranton. At 4:12 pm a deputy and Scranton fire responded to a field fire on Highway 25 and 330th St in Willow Township.

Tuesday, Nov. 2: At 3:48 am a deputy attempted to stop the driver of a stolen vehicle on 110th St near O Ave in Dawson Township. The driver stopped and waited till the deputy identified them and then fled. Arrest warrants have been requested. The vehicle was stolen out of Wayne County and was located at or about 1:29 pm in the 900 block of 120th St in Dawson Township parked in a tree line. At 7:15 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 1900 block of Highway 4 south of Jefferson.

Monday, Nov. 1: At 11 am a deputy and Jefferson fire responded to a grain bin fire on K Ave near 330th St in Greenbrier Township. At 4:47 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief to the Angus Cemetery near Rippey.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
