Local Red Kettle campaign starts Friday

Donations, volunteer bell ringers needed

The Salvation Army service unit in Greene County will conduct this year’s Red Kettle campaign on Friday evenings and Saturdays at several locations in Greene County for four weekends starting Nov. 26.

Ninety percent of the money received in Greene County will be disbursed in Greene County to help families and individuals needing assistance with essential human needs. When someone sends money directly to the Salvation Army, there is no 90 percent retention for Greene County.

The amount raised in 2020 was $7,690.  Last fiscal year the local Salvation Army unit helped many families or individuals with their rent, utilities, transportation and other needs.

The goal for this year’s campaign of $8,000 would allow the local unit to serve Greene County residents with a similar budget. The regional Salvation Army officials in Omaha have at times also assisted with needs beyond the funds raised in Greene County when there is a fire or other disaster in the region.

“Please consider helping your neighbors by giving to the Salvation Army during this holiday season,” a spokesperson said.

Persons who have questions or would like to volunteer as a bell ringer this year can call Greene County Salvation Army coordinator, Pastor J. Alexander at 515-386-4315 or Vern Foje at 402-699-3764.

In addition to filling the Red Kettles, donors may make deposits at Home State Bank any time of the year.
